Alby Go works just fine for sub accounts, you just need to keep the wallet connection string handy somewhere safe so you can add it again when needed. Alby Hub won't show the connection string for the sub account after you set it up.

Speaking of which... nostr:nprofile1qyt8wumn8ghj7etyv4hzumn0wd68ytnvv9hxgtcppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qyw8wumn8ghj7mn0wd68ytf39ehxymewv9hxwctwdyhxxme0qy08wumn8ghj7mn0wd68yttsw43zuam9d3kx7unyv4ezumn9wshszymhwden5te0wp6hyurvv4cxzeewv4ej7qg4waehxw309aex2mrp0yhxgctdw4eju6t09uq3wamnwvaz7tmjv4kxz7fwdehhxarj9e3xzmny9uq3wamnwvaz7tmjv4kxz7fwwpexjmtpdshxuet59uq3jamnwvaz7tmjv4kxz7fwwdhx7un59eek7cmfv9kz7qpqgetal6ykt05fsz5nqu4uld09nfj3y3qxmv8crys4aeut53unfvlqygds4v this would be one of the biggest things on my wishlist for Alby Hub. Instead of having one wallet connection string for Friends & Family sub accounts/hosted wallets, it would be really nice to be able to generate separate connection strings for each service you want to connect to for a particular Friends & Family wallet.

For instance, when my daughter wants to connect her wallet that I am hosting to her Amethyst app, there should be a way to set up a new connection string for that wallet specific to Amethyst, so she can have a separate budget just for Amethyst.

Now watch Alby tell me this is already possible and I just completely missed how to do it somewhere.

Not possible and also not planned, sorry. If you need connections for sub-accounts maybe consider running a separate hub.

A separate hub would be separate lightning node with its own liquidity via its own separate lightning channels, right?

Is this not possible because each sub account is really just a NWC connection with a separate balance, and so there is no way to associate other NWC connections to the same balance?

If it's the same balance, then you can (and must, unfortunately) use the same NWC Secret for this subwallet.

It's not possible for this and some other reasons. Happy to see some open-source contributors to build their sub-subwallet NWC app on top of that ;)

LNBits is building a NWC plugin, right? I wonder if that would have the ability to have separate connections for the same wallet balance, since I think their wallets are structured a bit differently.

👀

If this is something I can play with in LNBits on my Start9, I would definitely like to know how to get the plugin installed.

The start9 package definitely needs an update. We'll be releasing v1 soon so will get that update pushed after the release.

The main problem I see is that these sub-accounts don't have access to manage these connections in any way. I think to get started and make your first steps this is a great way, but if you really need separate apps & budgets, manage permissions, etc you should consider running a Hub yourself.

That's a solid point, and I use my Friends and Family wallets primarily for my wife and daughters. They don't really have any way to set up connections themselves, so they just have to paste in the connection string I initially gave them whenever they want to connect to another service. And sure, a couple of them may be interested enough to run their own Alby Hub at some point, where they can manage their own connections, and manage their own liquidity.

It would be nice to see a tool where those with hosted wallets have a means of managing such things. I suppose LNBits does this, giving each wallet its own .onion address and the ability to create login credentials. LNBits' interface is just a bit intimidating for most folks.

I think it is needed, though. There are going to be a lot of folks who want to have some ability to manage their wallet, but don't want to have to worry about managing liquidity and such that comes with running their own node. Right now, that would require them to use a major custodian like nostr:nprofile1qyt8wumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnrda5kummn9e5k7tcpzfmhxue69uhnztnwdaa8gu3wvdhk6tcpz9mhxue69uhnzdps9enrw73wd9hj7qgewaehxw309ukhqatz9emk2mrvdaexgetj9ehx2ap0qyv8wumn8ghj7vfsxqhrvd3wxyuzud3e8g6rsdpc9uq3jamnwvaz7te38yezuvfk8qhrzt3jxvur5dfsx5cj7qgewaehxw309ucnjv3wxymrst3s9ccn2vf6xsurgwp0qyd8wumn8ghj7vfexghrzd3c9ccnwwpwxuur5dfsx5cj7qgewaehxw309uerz6tyv4shxtnwdaehgu339e3k7mf0qy6hwumn8ghj7v3nv9ekgenpwdnryu3nxsckwmnzwfexs6ngwankwctyvenxwctnveekzerxv9ekzenp9eu8j730qqst4qyeqenw7zm0fwjsty68h6cnys5jre2xd8ngqpjv5a2j26s78fsp83l9e, but it would be preferable if they could have some ability to manage their own wallet hosted with someone they trust running the node.
