Some of the bitcoin cult retards reported my posts as spam (spam as in, disagreeing with their retard opinions) so now on Amethyst my posts are hidden as “inappropriate”. I think that’s the only client that does that. I really hope that doesn’t happen to them.
Discussion
Same here, these people are not used to disagreements (or really anything other than "We're all super smart because we buy bitcoin!")
Who makes amethyst? I think I follow him but I don’t remember who it is.
Meh, someone who has already made up his mind about how he wants to develop things, most likely.
Stupid response.
🤷♂️
It’s a legitimate problem that needs to be addressed. I’m sure someone could make an example of very popular accounts if they wanted…
It's probably true, but it's just not worth the hassle. I'm here to try to give people a different perspective, and possibly change my own, as I've had to seriously consider cryptocurrency after so many years of ignoring it...My stance is still that it's a scam...But if people don't want to have that discussion and would rather have their own little hugbox circlejerk about zaps and gambling bots, then fine. And if the devs want to silence any opposing viewpoints at the client and relay levels, fine.
It's just not worth my energy to go on a crusade to make Nostr the network that it has potential to be, where people discuss the matters of life and not just worship one fake currency while denigrating another fake currency.
I could spend every spare moment of my time developing stuff to make Nostr better, but for what? So people can just pat themselves on the back all day about how genius they are for latching on to a never-ending pump-and-dump tool that the rich use to get richer?
I feel the same way about fedi, where the overwhelming majority of ppl ridicule me because I tell pedophiles to stop masturbating to drawings of children. Pick your poison I guess, I’m sure fedi is the right choice for you.
I think I probably just need to take a break from both and read books for a while instead. Fedi used to have a lot more posts worth thinking about, and people would link to interesting pages and recommend books you couldn't find elsewhere, but now it's all just varying degrees of degenerate anime coom. I hardly even see people posting the stupid motivational stuff about going to the gym and being the best person you can be anymore...It's just aggressiveness and anime coom. Not great things to fill one's mind with, and neither is internet money.
I joined nostr to see if it would eventually turn into something other than a more complicated bitcoin telegram group. It is possible. It needs a wider variety of people and posts to be of any interest beyond this. Initial noob impression at least
My answer is to build my own stuff instead of trying to get someone else to do it, but every time I consider spending time on Nostr development, I realize that this community isn't worth wasting the time on.
#[6]
This is something I've noticed, there is no Mute function, which would be much better.. All forms of muting is done through a report of spam/inappropriate, which seems to add a user to a universal block list. Seems p unfair #[5]
Don't bug people if you don't want to get marked as Spam. They are free to mark your posts and reduce your reach to their followers.
They can also delete the report if it was made by mistake. In Nostr you are free to say whatever you want, and people are free to rove you from their feed.
There is no universal ban.
I get that but I'm thinking of scenarios where you just don't fancy seeing certain content. It's not the person bugging you. Like specific content accounts. Eg an account specifically posts about eg Lego, and another user has no interest in Lego. They're not harassing or inappropriate or spam, this user might want to just mute this account. Maybe I'm misundersating (very likely)....?
You mean don’t comment on people’s public social media posts? It’s amazing that you’re defending abuse of the spam reporting function to censor ppl, absolutely unreal.
It’s also extremely dishonest that you’re framing it as “reduce my reach to their followers” when I’m completely censored on the Amethyst app in general.
Whats the problem? You were blocked from some relays?
I was falsely reported by 8 ppl for “spam” for disagreeing with their takes on bitcoin, so now I’m completely censored on the Amethyst app.
I am replying to you in Amethyst. So, you are not censored at all.
I was told by an Amethyst user yesterday that my posts are hidden by default and marked as “inappropriate content”. Is that not correct?
It's probably correct. They are following somebody that marked you as spam. If they don't agree, they can stop following that person to see your content. Up to them.
So let’s say I’m critical of a huge account with many followers and they falsely report me as spam, making my posts hidden to a huge group of ppl and effectively censoring me. That seems like a sane and reasonable system to you?
In that case, people either agree with the account and you should be hidden or they don't agree with the account and can blast on the account to change it. Either way, like a free market, people will sort itself out.
I can already see Vitor here wondering why people that actually care about free speech start trashing Amethyst in a few week's time.
I'd prefer not to let the people I follow determine what I can and can't see, thanks.
i wonder how this works? is only one report needed to hide it?
