No. The likes inform their trending algo, but not your regular chronological feed.

I completely agree that we have become programmed to love the ❤️, to need the ❤️ but in a protocol like nostr you can't really see engagement unless people reply, like, or zap.
In my opinion comments/replies and reposts are the highest signal engagement but what happens when there is an urge to say something but it doesn't garner much more than a heart. meaning: the people who follow you saw it in passing and want to acknowledge you but didn't take much more time to really dive deep.
Should we shrug that off feature off?
Whats your thought on the quick acknowledgements? Should it just be a baby zap or a reply that says "thats so true"

Whose benefit are you engaging for? Is it simply to make you feel good even though you’re adding nothing of value, or is it because you actually have something meaningful you want to offer the person? Maybe not every single post needs your engagement.
I see your perspective of it and Im sure there are lots of people who engage for that reason.

But if I have a buddy on my network who posts something that I noticed took some effort on their part and provided me value, Id want them to know it did so. -Sure I could send sats and I might do so, but a like with sats might be a double tap.
If I know them in the real world I might just tell them when I see then next but, if I dont know them in the real world Id want to acknowledge their post even if I may not have much time to fully flesh out that acknowledgement.
Ultimately, what Im getting at is that this might be a "throwing the baby out with the bathwater" kind of situation
