#n00b question. if i run a LN or BTC (oh no, now i know the acronyms... look out) node, and the hardware fails am i hosed?

i'd be interested to hear any personal experience on that (and not interested in videos on running a node).

There’s even one titled “SHTF scenario - How to restore a dead LND node?” ⚡️

You’re welcome. 🤙

As for my personal experience, I’m still relatively new but I did encounter hardware failure with my #AlbyHub + phoenixd setup recently. Here’s how I migrated: https://stacker.news/items/829411/r/thebullishbitcoiner

about to lift 💪🏋️‍♂️

Let’s get it. 💪

You could be hosed. Depends if you've backed up your seed (any maybe channel states depending on a few things). With some simple precautions you can save yourself from 99% of potential issues. Store seed, use a watchtower, backup channel states at some regular interval.

From my experience running a node requires a bit of IT training to get the concepts...

Some anecdotes...

My first LN channel was 3 years ago with an IT professional buddy that doesn't even care about bitcoin, but understood the concepts right away like how to navigate in the terminal, how to scan your network, etc....

It helps to have IT experience..imo.

I have the IT stuff covered, ex mail/database/security server guy. 🤙🫂

Oh you're in there 100%....

Which falls into my theory that most people that run a node have some kind of IT background.

I've been running Linux as my main device since the beginning. I used to roll my own Gentoo boxes back in the day but I can't be bothered to wait for all the compiling these days.

I think you're probably mostly correct about IT people and nodes. Unafraid of tech and willing to learn seem like a bare minimum.

I have operated 2 nodes. I did have funds and recorded my seed words before I had issues with memory or something. I replaced that node with the recent umbrel home server/node and was able to type in the words and retrieve my funds.

So no lost funds for me. But I probably wouldn't feel comfortable with millions of sats in a node... to each their own.

Make backups of your backups.

always a good plan.
