NewPipe is exemplary. All the features I want; nothing I don't. It's a wholesale replacement for the YouTube app, with seamless downloading included.
Discussion
If NewPipe is ever being fickle you can also try PipePipe
I like the sponsor block 🤙
Yes, it is a great one. I would have given up on YouTube if not this app.
You'll want to cycle your IP address if it quits playing.
Thanks. I've had zero problems so far.
Tubular is newpipe with sponsorblock
BravePipe have more resources than Tubular, like: Rumble, Bitchute and some other options.
Estou usando o Brave New Pipe, porque há um tempo o New Pipe estava bugando e apresentando erros.
Another great tool is YTDLnis. Supports YouTube and hundreds of other sites for downloading video.
OK. This is cool.

You like terminal access?
Try Termux
Very useful for mobile SSH
Graphene also has a built in Linux VM. You need to enable it in developer settings, but it gives you a full Debian install to play with. It's a bit beta compared to termux though.
Termux is one of the first things I installed. 😎
I've had zero success with Android/Graphene Linux VM. Crashes after download/install every time. Love the idea of if.
Awesome, termux is an essential Android app 👍
Yeah, the VM is a WIP 💯
What do you use Termux for? I use the terminal constantly in my computer, but using it on my phone seems painful.
Remote server access from anywhere is a huge one. Saves me from dragging a laptop everywhere just in case I need to troubleshoot something.
You can also assign scripts to launcher icons, and there is a widget too, which eases the pain of working from a mobile keyboard. Just click a button to run commands.
https://github.com/termux/termux-widget
My phone also has usb-c video out, so it's even better when I'm hooked up to a larger display + keyboard and mouse. Pocket terminal ftw, and I didn't have to spend money on some raspberry pi cyberdeck that I'd never carry anyway.
I use it every day. Sometimes my VPN gets in the way and it does some weird stuff. Every now and again, I can't get it to work. You just have to wait some time.
I'm on Tailscale + Mullvad 24/7 with no problems, so far.
I run mullvad too. Strange. I'm also running a Pixel 9 and graphene OS. Unsure if that is giving me my fickleness. Works 90% of the time, if not, I just have to screw around with it.
How do you run both Tailscale and Mullvad? I’m only able to run one at a time since they are both VPN’s.
It's an add-on to Tailscale. $5/mo for Mullvad exit nodes for 5 devices.
Mine randomly stops working after an hour or so so I can only use Tailscale intermittently. Not sure what the deal is.
Bummer. I've never had trouble.
Nice! My Umbrel at home is becoming a major disappointment. HTTP only? No VPN unless it’s coming direct from router?! Like WTF man are we going backwards? Also, I like the $5 add on, but do you ever think maybe (conspiracy theory incoming 🤗) just maybe these paid VPN services are collecting our money and laughing their way straight to the backdoor they designed?
Interesting. My Umbrel Home has been great. And I run Tailscale on it.
As for laughing to the bank with our money, I think most are, yes. But nostr:nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnddaehgu3wwp6kyqpq68euw93e4cam59llcmydav0akwjk2p4nfy3p85pn22xv9y2jxuzqf35lee have proven themselves IMO, and Tailscale is "largely open source" and shown themselves to be a good actor.
my router connects to mullvad and i put a tailscale node behind it and set that up as an exit node. 😬
Fantastic app. Has been my go-to for years. Still is.

#winning
I've been using it for years....everyone in a while I have issues with my vpn and it working
Downloading.
Tubular is another good option
Or PipeBender https://github.com/MaintainTeam/LastPipeBender
Well, nevermind, the project is now archived...
It stopped working for me unfortunately. None of the videos are playing. Is it because of the VPN?
Same for me. It's because of VPN, I think, yeah...
I also think that this is the best YT player 👍
Indeed!
Best parasite app for video, still parasite.
Not for iOS, right?
Correct. I recently switched to GrapheneOS, so lots of discovery for me.
there is a fork called BraveNewPipe which adds Rumble and BitChute
https://github.com/bravepipeproject/BravePipe
"Due to restrictive project policy, the NewPipeTeam refuses to add platforms that they find offensive. This fork (BravePipe) will not be as restrictive. As long as the platforms work in the spirit of free speech, they could be integrated."
Very interesting. Thanks.
I used it daily, it rocks 👆
Ya brother! It's amazng, but i try https://grayjay.app/ and it give me a lot of good features too.
I'm missing skipping forward and back with headset buttons.. But there is an old pull request for it that I'm using 👍
Does it work for you? I had to switch to PipePipe which does allow a Google login if need be. I had to start doing that with a throwaway Google account because so many videos were breaking.
Like a charm, so far. I'm only 3 weeks in, but no problems.
In the future it could happen from time to time that videos don't work for a short period before the next update is made by the newpipe crew.
But in my experience that only happens when youtube implements new stuff to try to break down the free usable clients.
Just have to wait until the update and everything is fine again.
Using newpipe for around 2 years now.
From time to time you need to wait for an update if youtube changes things to break the newpipe client.
But besides that it's working flawelessly most of the time for me.
Been at it for over 2 years now.
Well maybe this will be the NewNewPipe
