I never really thought about it before, but I have no first cousins.
I was chilling with my husband’s extended family and everyone was counting how many first cousins they had. One of them had over 50 first cousins. Another had over 30. All of them had over 10.
Then it came to me and I had been going through it in my head and I was like, “uh… zero. Huh.”

No. They have few siblings and none of those few had children. There is one aunt I’ve never met that I don’t think married but I’m not 100% sure. So I have no known first cousins and probably no first cousins period.
In the west, family size is shrinking.
My wife and I have dozens of first cousins each. Our children have exactly 12 first cousins, but their first cousins have anywhere from 9 to 18 first cousins.
Our grandchildren currently have zero first cousins.

I've got 40+ cousins too. It's great but it can be overwhelming because it's hard to keep track of them all. It must be the best feeling in the world for my grandparents though.

I wish I had started having kids younger. When I was little I had this giant extended Sicilian family and now I don't know where any of them are. Luckily my wife has a big extended family that my little guy can grow up getting to know.
