It's wild to think that usually an app has access to ALL of your files and pictures.

Choose which files you want to grant access to any app.

with modern android is not like was before, you can pick on the fly the photo/video the app needs without expose other media, but this method needs to be supported by the apps. Still agree 100% with your take👍

It's a bit of a double edged sword.

I gave WhatsApp a storage scope but I found that I would cross post images and I found a fair workaround: you can share an image from the filesystem and GIVE WhatsApp the file from outside its storage scope.

I think there might have been more points of friction, but whatever.

I guess this is a UX improvement without security downside.

Storage scopes only apply for the case where an app requests the file.

But it doesn't apply for when the filesystem shares a file with an app.

Makes sense to me.

Yeah, I was just expressing that it was a behavioural change I had to make.

Storage Scopes prevents apps doing unattended file access, but not users giving files to apps. A lot of users also confuse apps using the operating system image/file picker as bypassing the feature when in reality the apps can't see until you select the file you want.

Wait for the Rethink Rabbit Hole 😂
