This problem of translating notes is not working well right now TestFlight version. Neither manual nor auto-translation. In the AppleStore version it works Perfect. Dear #[1] https://nostr.build/av/086d9054aecec446031f04006a7c5fa5e7e1465fa97b045364bc58fa11186551.mov

What do your translation settings look like?

FYI: My translations haven’t worked for a while either.

All I see is the word Translating.

Strange, just tried with that one and it works ok, but is a bit slow. Maybe try a different service ?

I agree - it is strange and I have played around with different settings and still doesn’t work.

Not that big of a deal for me - but I think it’s good you are aware of it…

It is a very useful function to be able to interact with people who write in different languages to English.

It’s the same one I use in the Apple Store version and it works perfectly.

Changing your setting to something else and back might fix it? Sorry there was a bug with these settings on testflight.

The same thing happens with any configuration.

Which service are you using?

The same problem arises with any service.

Was anything changed here #[4] ? I can’t reproduce this

#[3] This code hasn’t changed in a while. When you say the same problem arises with any service, do you mean you’ve tried LibreTranslate, DeepL, and NoKYCTranslate? Or that you tried different LibreTranslate? The default LibreTranslate servers are pretty bad and I’ll probably remove them soon. Also, translations are cached, so if Damus failed to get the translation for a particular note, switching to a different service wouldn’t actually retry the translation request for that note. I also want to add automatic request retries so that a single translation request failure doesn’t necessarily ruin the experience. But having more information from you would help us debug further.

Thank you for your reply. I have only tried LibreTranslate because it works Perfect in version 1.4.2 of AppleStore both manual and automatic. I don't think it's the service because I tried the 3 available in LibreTranslate since they do work for me. Apparently it is the problem in the TestFlight version since other users have the same problem.

Can you also confirm what the list of preferred languages are in your iOS settings? Is English there? We don’t translate to those languages because we assume you understand those languages.

Maybe the setting refactor broke something? But I thought we fixed that. Will check

Tnk for taking the time. 🫂

translate from those languages*

In my first note another user reported the same problem with other hateful ones other than English.

*A language other than English.

Right, but it also depends on the list of preferred languages in your settings. Can you share yours? Here’s mine.

This is my language setting.

There’s also a bug here for me too. When I tap into an English note with translation service enabled but auto translations off and my preferred language set to English, it shows me the Translate Note button but it should actually be hidden away since it’s in my list of preferred languages.

Install version 1.4.2 of AppleStore and it works perfectly with the same language settings on iOS and with the same language settings from Damus as on TestFlight. And this one translates all the languages.
