In the 1930s, men ate 3,500+ calories a day with 500g+ of sugar/carbs. 🍯🍞🥛
And guess what? They were LEAN! 💪

> "Caloric intake was often higher than today for those with access to food, as many Americans engaged in manual labor."
That's a lazy assumption and it's wrong.
Look at the video. They are wearing fine dresses and suits. How much manual labor are they doing?
People are killing themselves exercising when exercise was barely a thing back then.
> "Ultimately, the explanation here is that our metabolisms have been completely and utterly decimated over the past 100 years."
I think they didn't need to exercise to the extent we do today because they naturally got more exercise just in the course of everyday living. They walked more, had fewer labor-saving devices, did more by hand, and yes, industry wasn't yet sickening and killing them to the extent it seems to be today.
Oh shoot grok has its own website
The transport, or lack there of might be a factor… people moved more.
If you add 10,000 steps into your day it’s hard not to stay lean or get leaner.
I’d place a small wager NYers in the 1930’s did more than 10,000 steps (6kms)/day without even trying.
My grandmother walked 6miles to and from school each way each day in the 1930’s.
I’m dieting more in this direction.
Did keto and carnivore for a few years. I think these diets have their place, but not for long-term diet.
Today I ate some fruit for breakfast with a green tea with honey. A piece of homemade peach pie and a chai tea with cream and honey for lunch. Ribeye steak with onions fried in butter with sweat potatoes for dinner. Greek yogurt with fruit for desert with a cup of hot chocolate with cream and honey.
No vegetable oil is allowed in my home in any form. Everything is fresh and homemade (my wife is an excellent cook).
So basically, I’m eating similar to how my grandparents did before they were duped into swapping out animal fats for Crisco and I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter.
Sugar, lard and butter got replaced with high fructose corn syrup, seed oils and margarine
Calories aren’t real
