What is your threshold for ‘annoying’ zap amount? I’ve been going back and forth with zap amounts as a subtle form of getting my brand out there but would love to hear what consensus is.
Marketing on nostr is a really tough problem some of us are working to tackle
I got a 1 sat zap once. I wasn’t even mad, just impressed we can send that small of an amount so easily.

Single-digit zaps are spammy. That’s my current threshold.
But a better question here would be, What amount of zap would make you want to visit my profile/website/etc?
That’s a great question. Relative to each person. I’ve been doing 33 sats but I feel like 100 sats or more might be more reasonable and eye catching.
I think 100 is probably a good starting point. A lot of people will fling 21, 42, or 69 sats back and forth on literally any post. They’re fun to send/receive, but honestly I don’t ever pay attention to what’s written in them. You start hitting a bunch of people with 3 and 4-digit zaps and you’ll start getting more attention.
Having not madebit to the left of the decimal yet, my zaps are still small... Shrugs, hoping to hit 1BTC within 4 years, but still fun to send little zaps just cause I can, and no one can stop me. Better than just a like to show appreciation, anyways.

The original question was related to advertising. Agreed, if the purpose is fun then send whatever amount you want. If you’re trying to advertise your brand/product, then fun is not the end goal. You want the attention of potential customers. How much does it take to get your attention? That’s the relevant question.

I’m sure it depends on the person. I set my wallet to hide any transactions below 10 sats, and to hide notifications less than 21 sats, and even then I simply don’t look at messages in any zaps less than 3 digits. Thanks for the sats, but not worth my attention to be bothered with that.

That said, zaps are seen publicly so as long as it’s visible on the post, anyone who sees that post sees that zap message. In that case, it makes more sense to zap posts that are popular, instead of zapping to get the attention of the person you’re zapping.
I wish I could say I see what you are saying, but I’ve never seen the messages in zaps.
Use a better client. Damus severely lacks features compared to other apps. Nostur, Primal, and Yakihonne are much better.
I just tried #Nostur and #Yakihone. Conversion was rough on the follower/following count, and now see missing responses in DM and how zap messages are displayed, but those two apps were cluttered vs. simple #damus. I’ll try primal next but keeping expectations low.
If none of those apps work out to your liking, maybe you can convince the Damus team to add the feature you want. It’s useful to see the zap messages on the notes as you scroll. As for follower counts, there’s no consistency with that because it depends which relays your app is pulling people’s contact lists from. Each app handles it its own way. Nostur just shows infinite followed if I remember correctly, which is probably my favorite 🤣
Zaps with clever comments work way better for me. I send em a lot too when I wanna do a drive by and not get reply notifications.
Agree with you on single digits tho, it’s better than a like I guess… but something feels off. I’d rather10 likes and one fat zap across multiple posts. Then I get a gauge on what you’re into. Like it literally helps you get to know someone online in higher fidelity IMO…

I would have a budget, maybe a daily budget. Select a few accounts each day.

I think there’s a lot to be said for organic and word of mouth growth. Reposts from others who believe in your brand. Seems less contrived and less of a turnoff.

I've seen you grow organically just here on nostr. Zappertising is great. But I love the marketing via zapping a pod like RHR for a shoutout think this could really transform marketing

I know we don't necessarily want to hold Google Ads as our goal, but how much would a single print of an ad costs in Google Ads? The engagement is different, but at least that would give you an idea of what advertising costs in the fiat world and that would help make a decision regarding the zapping amount.

Start with 5000 per day, and on weekends, 10000 per day. Do a giveaway or contest. It depends on what you can afford and what you hope to achieve. Marketing is easy when you're having fun and enjoying yourself. And when you're selling your product. 👌
I don’t think there’s a fixed number, it’s more about intent. If the zap feels genuine, even a small one isn’t annoying. If it feels spammy, even a big one can be. ⚡

To me, there is no such thing as an annoying zap. Annoy me all day long.
Anything under 42 is not great for a zapvertisement. We want folks to pay it forward at this stage, so 42 is 2x21 which wotks well.
In 15 years though, 4.2 sats should be plenty 😉
