How do you find more friends on Nostr?

Posts. Hashtags. Comments on bigger accounts notes. Global. It’s a grind but eventually you’ll find a good group. At least that’s been my experience.
Click on the followers link in the profile of heavy posters and follow many of them. They will follow you back.
Follow hashtags. Look at other people's follows.

Nostr is a proof of work protocol. You have to put in the work to get the most from it. We generally don't have a lot of algorithms bringing content forward, though some clients are getting into this now. You have to be your own algorithm. You have to make yourself known and connect and converse with people that you follow and that follow you. You have to be human and be social, because we don't have software to spoon-feed us here. Welcome 🔥

When you find people you like, go look through their follows & followers 🙂
SearchProfileSearch (sps) - enter a lot of keywords (also with minus to ignore) and it will show you recently active users that used them somewhere in their history. Example: https://sps.bio/?q=entrepreneur+survivalist+cannabis+hemp+-mastodon
It's pretty darned tough. Like others have said, it takes a lot of work, including the dreaded global timeline. It's unfortunate, because this is really limiting #nostr's reach.
There are a lot of technical features that could make it much easier, but they're not the sexy features that devs want to work on, such as:
- Limit timeline to languages you can read
- Filter out certain words from global timeline (either temporarially or eternally)
Honestly, just these things would alllow filtering out so much uninteresting/spam/garbage, and might make the global timeline tolerable.
If anyone knows of any clients that have these features, please do let me know!
Thanks for your reply! I’m sure we will see marked improvements over the next few years on this! But for the time being I’m glad we aren’t lost in an algorithmic soup. I’d rather it be by our own design.
