Genuine question

How do we verify npubs of prolific people who may be targets of impersonation, or anyone for that matter, without relying on them to cross post their npub somewhere else, especially with an exodus of people leaving Twitter to come to Nostr where that was taking place mostly.

I know I’m thinking worst case scenario here, but I’m imagining how that might get increasingly harder with AI doing AI things.

NIP-05 identifier

Thought about NIP-05 but thought that as verification sites will eventually grow, how trustworthy will they be, but didn’t think of doing it with your own domain, which makes perfect sense.

My only domain is literally myname.com so i guess i need another one lmao

Either cross posting, signing with pgp keys, or someone that knows them in real life will have to vouch I think

Figured about the vouching, but then it goes into the trust argument. But also… there’s layers there I think. PGP is a good one.

The MySpace way, posting a picture of yourself holding a piece of paper with your npub handwritten, throwing up a peace sign and MAYBE some duck lips 😤✌️

Sounds like something midjourney could pull of :P

Oh wait, you’re too young for that 😅😘

#[4] can you find this picture?! 😆

let’s just say the “glow-up” was strong in my case 🥹

studded belts and low-rise jeans #tbt 🤪

👏🤙

omg, i would’ve been so afraid of you walking past in the halls of high school. 😂😂

I’m much scarier now 😈

😬😭 lol 😂😂 maybe, but you seem pretty cool❕🤗🥳😎🤓

🤣🤣🤣

ah what a throwback indeed. thanks for sharing

The ROI on that dream catcher is off the charts 😂

underrated note

Duck lips not optional.

Oh gawd that’s a memory I forgot and wanted it to stay that way.

The cringe… the cringe 😖😖😖

Was literally thinking that but didn’t know if there was a more efficient way, but this is also where the AI thought came in.

Verify that their top friends looks legit

Most prolific people probably have a unique domain they own that can be used for nip05. I’m sure other solutions will come about.

It’s a good question. Best way seems to be NIP-05 from their own domain, or through a service provider that does a real good verification before giving out a purple check.

Reading the comments on many YouTube videos shows lots of accounts trying to impersonate the channel owner. It will probably come here too unfortunately, and the impersonators can get a check from their own domain to try to look like an official account. Something to watch out for and prepare against if we can.

Good point of using their own domain. Completely didn’t think of that.

theyll probably have their own official domain for checkmarks verification

Can you repost this somewhere public that doesn't prompt the viewer to auth on Google (on mobile at least)? It looks interesting from what I can see in the preview.

Long term I envision a Web of Trust type system that'll give you a probability of identity based on followers that you follow and some verification mechanisms in place around that.

NIP-05 is the best way currently, and doing a thorough sanity check yourself. I usually check their Twitter and see if my follows are following them.
