I very much enjoy #nostr as a think-out-loud diary, musings on developing thoughts, and a peer-to-peer social connection experience.

But as a content creator or platform to market your work, it’s still very bad compared to everything else. The potential is massive, the tools and ability to reach an audience need to be built. Perhaps this is greatly due to the daily active user stats which are incredibly low.

So if you have the ability to receive zaps, but no audience….?

Like X is so shitty and people STILL stay there because they can’t find better alternatives.

I’m here for the long haul with #nostr, just also raising this as a concern and a “how do we grow this” question

In my opinion #Nostr will grow similarly to how #Bitcoin grows.

Nostr is being built by the “visionaries” and used by the early adopters. It will continue to exist and gradually improve but due to its anti-fragile architecture there will be times when external events (eg things akin to Covid censorship) will catalyze large growth spurts for Nostr relative to centralized and censorship-prone platforms.

Similar to how Bitcoin simply exists and works as it’s slowly built out by global visionaries but certain events (eg hot inflation, bail ins / outs, bank runs, halvings, etc) catalyze massive spurts of adoption.

The human errors within centralized systems consistently (but intermittently) push large swaths of users to the anti-fragile alternatives over time.

The decentralized alternatives are superior, but nascent. They need to continue to be built and that will take more time. But it’s happening. I think Bitcoin has reached the inflection point of no return, though it’s not reached its final form yet either. Still ≈ a decade of work to be hashed out.

I think as the protocol gets built out, the use cases will bring people in. Being able to tap directly into IPFS and Bittorrent will allow large content files to be shared dynamically. When the new community built Wiki starts getting content that rivals the original in accuracy, people will flock to it. When creating a node is as simple as launching IPFS Desktop on any computer, it will bring people and organizations in. When scientific and financial data starts to show up directly on Nostr nodes, Wall Street will start to take notice.
