I second this. I’ve been recommending Bitkey to everyone under 1 coin nostr:note1mxazq7ea8dsd3eenq55z7y7zryh5rt3myq9yspxtqgmjg94shzvqan3d35

And over 10 coin?

👀🤣

Geographically distributed multisig

This is the way.

But not for more than 1 coin?

Not for much more no imo

When did you start stacking?

Ten years ago

2014? So like around $300? That's insane, good for you man! You deserve it.

$225 yeah. It’s been a wild ride.

That's dope.

Write a novel

That high a value?! On what basis? I've a second Bitkey unused as I was concerned for the value I could safely keep for a family member other than my mum. Sent a note earlier related to this.

That’s just the max I would personally trust on a Bitkey

Sounds about right. Appreciate the nudge. I’m slow to love on recommending HWW because CC is to intimidating and the rest have other priorities.

Love = move

Sooo bitkey good for msig?

What would you recommend once over 1?

Coldcard.

Extreme levels of Bitcoin wealth, probably a 2/3 multisig setup with Casa.

Or unchained

That’s my go-to as well. Multi would be with unchained for me though

Would you mind sharing your opinion on a collaborative custody setup like unchained?

Big fan of collaborative custody

Just bought one.

Not a cheap option for lower qty coin holders though

Got one for my sister and one for my parents for christmas.

The one gripe I have with it is that if and when Block goes under, you gotta sweep to another wallet because now:

1. You are in a 2 of 2

2. It is unlikely that the app/account will transfer to a new phone anymore

3. Social recovery is non-existant as it actually relies on Block servers to work (for some unexplained reason)

4. The only thing left is your recovery kit and you better use it before you lose any of your keys now.

I can't call this long term for that reason.

Why not over 1 coin? What’s the main concern, privacy?

Security. There’s a lot of trust involved with bitkey.

You think it’s less secure than a service like casa or unchained? Or do you not recommend that either (I haven’t used either, just drawing the comparison bc theyre the main multi sig services I see that seem to offer similar benefit at bitkey).

Yes it’s less secure than those services

I wouldn’t say it’s less secure in the wild from a user error POV. In general, it is at the moment since it lacks certain features other services and hardware signers have.

Bitkey feels like the product for the average joe middle-class millennial normie that has a Bitcoin “allocation”, or for older people that get onboarded by their millennial kids.

I kinda like the Bitkey for advanced users for certain use cases. Keep 1-3% for unexpected or emergency situations, where accessing the main stash is too inconvenient or inaccessible in a short period of time.
