Cats were originally used to kill rats and other vermins, especially on those wooden battle ships and pirate ships. Very useful. So it's understandable.
But cats were never bred or trained the way dogs are. Dogs were absolutely bred and they bred the most loyal dogs on purpose. That's why dogs are so easy to train.
but cats, we kinda just let cats do their own thing. So for thousands of years cats were not really trained. They are only semi-domesticated and therefore they still act and are pretty much a wild animal. Hard to train.
I think in the future maybe we can use gene editing tech to domestic cats so they are better pets.
Because currently cats are more abandoned then dogs due to people having the mindset that cats are low maintenance, but in fact they are not. They need as much attention as dogs or they will get depressed and cause problems.
You can train a cat to use a toilet but it might get scared or annoyed then end up doing it's business on your bed and be afraid of using the toilet after that. So all your training will be useless.
I like cats but the media has hidden the truth about them.
I think they're great just how they are. I wouldn't want a cat that behaved more like a dog. Part of the appeal to me is that they are cute little predators with a mind of their own. When they love you it's very rewarding. There's nothing like a cat purring in your lap.

I hope to have a catio someday so they can enjoy the outdoors safely without threatening the birds. I'd build it with a sheltered area for the litter box so I could keep my living space cleaner and fresher.
Not sure the media thing is that big of a deal. People can be shitty owners of any type of pet if they're not willing to learn how to care for them properly.
