Trying to upload a 3.2 GB video file with Starlink from Zambia. Yesterday it took around 5 hours to upload a video of the same size. Just to give you an impression of how difficult it is to work here.
Discussion
Same speeds as when I lived far north in 2010.
Wow!
I thought Starlink worked everywhere coming from satellites but clearly I got that wrong Anita!
Am thinking of getting it myself but hopefully it works better here if I do!
The interesting thing is that in a Speedtest I see good results, but somehow the bandwidth must be limited. And upload is much worse than download. Iโm also wondering if there might be less satellites targeted at Africa?
Big file!
๐คฃ Thatโs the time needed to modernise the infrastructure before trying a new upload
Hi anita nice to meet you ๐ค The fact that youโre making it work despite the challenges speaks volumes about your dedication. ๐ Infrastructure may be slow, but your impact is moving at lightning speed. Keep pushing forward your work in Africa is making a real difference!
Reminds me of the early days ๐ 3,2 gigs is massive!

Is this a known bug? I've noticed it before, sometimes the letter "k" moves all over the place ๐
Look into compressing the video. Handbrake is a good option for desktop, and FFshare is one for Android. You can often knock the size down by up to 80%. Saves a lot of bandwidth on upload, and download for viewers.
Good idea. But I need them on Vimeo so that my editor has access. Will compressing it before not reduce the quality?
Update: it took 5 hours. At least it worked.
What editing software do you use? ๐ง
I might be able to help speed up your workflow & reduce storage impact via export optimization. ๐ค
