The ONLY reason I can’t use nostr:npub1v5ufyh4lkeslgxxcclg8f0hzazhaw7rsrhvfquxzm2fk64c72hps45n0v5 exclusively for podcast is because of how garbage the podcast index is at searching my own show.

If I search “Bitcoin Audible Whitepaper” then despite 100s of results not a SINGLE episode of my show is even there. If I search the same in Spotify, the episode with the whitepaper is, obviously, the top result.

This has been going on forever and it’s so fucking annoying. I’ve contacted the guys who literally made the podcast index, and have tried to sort this out on maybe a dozen different occasions in the past 2 years, and it’s still complete trash.

I thought I was the only one who has issues a couple years ago with my short lived podcast too.

Still a problem aye?

It’s impossibly retarded. Like I CANT search my show on it, at all. It makes every other thing about the app almost useless because I can’t even direct anyone to it. Literally every single time I want to share my podcast, I have no way to get the link from the Podcast Index. Which is just so stupid to me.

Wow.

I wonder how they index the shows then. Too bad its prob not open source how they do so!

TBF, Spotify’s search is pretty awesome: https://engineering.atspotify.com/2022/03/introducing-natural-language-search-for-podcast-episodes/

But you’re right, Fountain seems to naively match on the first search term…

I still have issues with this app crashing randomly on a regular basis. Hopefully these bugs get sorted out.

They are having to build their entire own index to fix it. Sucks because if we could just fix the podcast 2.0 index this wouldn't be an issue. Causing a ton of unnecessary work

Instead of searching globally from the Fountain Home Screen, go to Bitcoin Audible’s show page, click the search mag glass at the top of that page, and it will only search Bitcoin Audible episodes. Like this. It’s not intuitive, but limit your sample set before beginning your search. 🤙

That’s how to do it. It’s a podcast app and not google. 👍

The player has issues, it stalls all the time with some shows. I don't have too much problems with yours, but with Saife's it is terrible.

The problem I'm referring to isn't with nostr:npub1v5ufyh4lkeslgxxcclg8f0hzazhaw7rsrhvfquxzm2fk64c72hps45n0v5, its the index they connect to for aggregating podcasts. And i still just haven't figured out why its such an awful search system or what is even happening. That's what makes it suck. Fountain has been great for me in every other regard, but the podcast index project has made it unusable for me because of one really stupid and fixable barrier that just isn't getting fixed.

Who can build a better podcastindex.org?

Doesn't need to build something different, just fix whatever the indexing problem is with the one that's already there. I just don't know how unfortunately.

Feedback taken onboard

I’ve been frustrated with the search performance too.

It takes much longer to find the show name when entering it.

With Fountain you have to spell out almost the entire name vs. Apple Podcasts where it auto-populates much faster.

It’s an index and not a search engine. We don’t have the capital to do episode level search. It’s a purely V4V project.

This is something we plan to address very soon by building our own search index for episodes - it's a big job as there are over 100m episodes out there which is why we've held off until now.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too much longer.

Do you use the Podcasting 2.0 index? Just wondering if it wouldn’t make more sense to improve an open solution so everyone benefits from it.

That's what im referring to in the OP. The podcast 2.0 index is the thing that has the problem, which is making nostr:npub1unmftuzmkpdjxyj4en8r63cm34uuvjn9hnxqz3nz6fls7l5jzzfqtvd0j2 have to rebuild the whole thing and implement something different.

If i could figure out what the hell is happening with the podcast 2.0 index I'd LOVE to just get it fixed, but i've been trying for a very long time and it hasn't changed in at least 2+ years.
