i wish the desktop clients were as good as the mobile ones :( We wouldn't even need WoT relays if we could filter spam on the clients. (and AFAIK, that's the spirit of nostr, everyone is free to see or hide the spam as they see fit)

gossip has a nice feature where you mark relays as spam safe and only use those for notifications. just sayin', very useful feature imo.
the spam battle, dont give up so ez! many relays already filter using sats, wot or traditional firefighting, just need more client settings to meet them halfway. π₯

That is entirely possible. I would guess most new users won't stick around if all they see is spam.
Be interesting to see if any of the nostr stats show a slow down because the deteriorated experience because all the spam. I wish we knew who it is behind it. I guess we are big enough to care about now.
It could because of a multitude of reasons, but my feed has been slower over the last few days and I'm getting less engagement on my notes. Maybe it's because I tweaked my relays, maybe everyone is busy and using Nostr less like I have been recently, or maybe it's spammers turning people off, or something else.
WOT is bad, if you run strfry, I will help you and yourr rely be spam free. I have done it
On top of choosing my relays, which should stop spam, something I can configure like wot is great. Unfortunately I see much spam coming from filter.nostr.wine which was paid and doing good until today. :(
I think the concept of WOT is great but can't just stop at follows. One should be able to choose the WOT points that users must have, but also choose how many layers (follows of follows of follows) aggregate that score. WOT isn't the one solution but it's needed. and needs to be more configurable.
Yes, relays should fight spam better. However, WOT is a failure and ruins the experience. Every other decentralized alternative don't have these problems. Only Nostr because of their bad design decisions. They never cared about the relay. Wot is a poorly designed bandaid to cover up bad relay design decisions. Nostr can't even fight CSAM
Your right it does hurt discovery. I just like when I can control it. I limited everything to like 2 relays, then stopped seeing things in certain clients, added a couple back. Choosing relays still confuses me I suppose.
Yeah, it could be a multitude of things like you said. I have also noticed a slowdown lately; hopefully, it's not the spam attack working. We'll probably get a clearer picture in a couple of weeks.
