doing this

Abso-fucking-lutely doing this!

I live in Germany, and we can buy devices from a company called "tolino". They are similar to kindles, but more open.

Maybe that is an alternative. But anyways, great and helpful video, especially if you already own a kindle.

Or just don't buy that Amazon crap, and get a normal ebook reader like Onyx Boox Page

Well I’m not sure people are actively buying to do this, maybe it’s more for those who already have the hardware.

Also Amazon hardware can sometimes be gotten at steep discounts so I’d assume that factors in as well.

Nice, jailbroke mine to build this https://d11n.net/kindle-status-display.html

Done it a while ago, the best part you can turn off the backlit completely.

Yup did this last week

...and done.

Nostr on Kindle

This is amazing did you jailbreak your Kindle?

Which Linux distro did you choose to use? I managed to install the Alpine Linux as demonstrated in the YT vid, but open to explore other distros compatible with Kindle PW2

So far just Alpine as per the video. Same boat.

Amazing Fren and #GM FREN HAVE A FABULOUS 🌟 DAY TODAY

Cool

I filled the same guide but I don't have a nice browser like that... Is that an app you installed?

Alpine Linux kual app (which comes with Chromium browser).

You're right, I guess it wasn't part of that guide, but it was in the description of that video.

I tried a bunch of web based nostr clients but the only one that worked first try was nostr.band.

https://github.com/schuhumi/alpine_kindle_kual/releases

Realizing now I hadn't watched the second part of the video. šŸ˜‚

Was too busy exploring.

Sorry, can I use kindle after that? šŸ˜…

I like my bezoslibrarycentralizedkindle ...šŸ¤

For sure. It just adds a new "book" to your library that opens a new app launcher.

And if you don't like it, you can always undo the changes and totally go back to the way it was.

Just install z-lib https://1lib.sk and send the epubs to your kindle.

Spent half the day exploring & de-Amazon’d my old #Kindle into giving me both a mobile Linux desktop environment and full control of my ebook reader application using KOReader.

INSANE (!!!) how much I can do with my locally hosted Calibre now that I don’t have Amazon’s restrictions; it’s what it should’ve been from the beginning: a very powerful and customizable FOSS e-ink ebook reader.
