Why does MacOS create these weird hidden files and directories everywhere? It is so bad.

Indexing and metadata extraction.

You probably mean ._DS_Store and ._yourfilename.thing - it's been doing that eversince I first started using "Mac OS X 10.4".

No idea why, since HFS+ already has a journal and the FAT entries already have a lot of info in them...

Almost every OS does this. Windows places thumbnail caches and a recycle bin folder on drives, Linux has LOST+FOUND, etc…

Freeing up diskspace on mac is surprisingly annoying. Try unsyncing icloud drive, photos taking up lots of space. All so tiresome.

💯

Why are you using a Mac? Do you enjoy prison or something

Because the computer is theirs to do with as they please. You do not own a Mac, you merely experience it.

Because is not a Linux.

Where else would you store directory GUI view settings? (It's fine to say you'd prefer not to store them, Finder should have a hidden default to disable creation of ._DS_Store files)

The same reason why the Windows do the same.
