> "Tornado Cash does not pose any barrier for people with criminal assets who want to launder them," according to the translated verdict seen by CoinDesk. "That is why the court regards the defendant guilty of the money laundering activities as charged."

I wonder if automobile and knife manufacturers will be jailed next:

- Automobiles do not pose any barrier for people with murderous intent who want to drive over pedestrians crossing the street.

- Knives do not pose any barrier for people with murderous intent who want to stab people with them.

These analogies aren't even very good, because "money laundering" is not analogous to murder, it is a weasel word term for a benign victimless activity of moving money privately.

Law enforcement needs to figure out how to investigate the original crimes without "following the money."

This idea that privacy must be sacrificed in the name of law enforcement is a kind of extremism that I think We The People always and perpetually need to push back against.

Just make it analogous to gun manufacturers rather than knives or vehicles. It’s all the same but guns have more weight behind them

If I made it about guns, too many people would conclude that we should make guns illegal. I make it about knives and automobiles because nobody will try to outlaw those.

I felt like the opposite would be true (due to the unwavering fan base) but I see your point. I thought it would play well in certain parts of the US

I will say auto manufactures have been under MASSIVE regulations for a really long time. The EPA jails aftermarket manufactures who modify vehicles or manufacture modified components without a license (that you can't actually obtain bwt). (I have 2nd hand experience if you want to discus this in detail) This goes for modified vehicle firmware as well. Even if you own your vehicle, people who make firmware editing tools have been jailed

I have some 1st hand experience as well, but I have to be careful what I say.

Granted. But you can still drive into a crowd. And the manufacturers haven't been jailed for not stopping that ability.

knives - no.

automobiles ? you bet.
