Lume is coming along super nicely

Having had likes disabled for so long now tho, they just seem like such unnecessary information and more of something that clutters the UI and serves as an attention disruptor and distraction than anything else.

Majority of nostr doesn’t have a lightning wallet. If we disable likes people will just think this is a broken social network.

Besides, likes are used as acknowledgment often.

makes sense. I think we should try to be less like the old, and embrace the new more boldly then.

That'd be nice, but then this will become a purely bitcoiner niche social network and everyone else will ignore it. Bitcoin doesn't have a great brand as it is due to all the shitcoinery constantly latching onto it.

Im not convinced thats true. How could we be certain of that?

The reality is that trying to appease certain categories of people rn is not working anyway and nostr is naturally skewed towards certain kinds of users.

So while this is the case why not explore and try things full power. The way i see it, there is nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Agree with the sentiment but we need integrated wallets or better interop. Which wallets support nostr zaps? I only know of alby (invite only atm) and mutiny. Also onboarding to the lighting network (or any payments network) will always have more friction than onboarding people to a social network.

a social network is not predicated on ’like’ functionality.

I think what I’m pushing back against is adopting the same kind of ways of interacting and functionality - not because its better, but because we’re trying to APPEAL to certain users.

Instead, I think we are best served by simply creating the best product irrespective of whether it is similar, different or completely novel, and less on what we THINK users prefer.

I think the point here is imo, is that embracing the points of difference are nostr’s edge. Its the thing we should be leaning into waaaaaay more.
