Looking at buying a new laptop.

Company offers a CPU upgrade to a newer generation for $200.

Look up the CPU benchmark comparisons.

The new generation is 4% slower with the same power draw.

WTF?

What's your take on nitrokey laptops ?

First I've heard of them, looks neat.

I was suspicious when I saw they sell phones but I see they're loading GrapheneOS rather than a niche custom OS so it seems they know what they're doing.

yeah it's interesting what they do with the phones especially, taking radio modules out and selling without the microphone and camera..

BTW any opinion on

No Moore upgrades for you.

Yeah but how many AI features does it have?

Inverse correlation with speed and stock price?

Fun fact, but not really related: System76 has laptops with coreboot.

I just roll with old thinkpads and remote in to workhorse server

I recently bought a framework laptop and have been very happy with it

curious to what you end up getting, i've been contemplating a portable workhorse since i'm away from my battlestation most of the time

Look into frame.work/linux for first class Linux support + hardware switches for camera and mic.

If it was a 13th or 14th gen intel they got themselves into trouble for pushing the silicon too hard and were getting failures and had to back it off a bit to keep things stable.
