If you're driving while intoxicated but technically your car is fully self driving without your input, are you actually driving while intoxicated?
Discussion
I'm sure they'll find a way...open container? 😆
Yes.
As per law yes. But technically no.
This is the truth. My car has gotten me home just fine after a few drinks just as it does when I have not had them...but it stays inside those white lines a lot better than me making it way less likely I will get pulled over and it's drives slowly and meticulously. Exactly what drunk drivers do not do...
If the law is : a human should be there as a supervisor, if you are the supervisor, then yes. If not, then no.
You can imagine that driverless cars may have remote inputs to un-stuck them. The remote operator can't be drunk.
If you're riding that driverless vehicle as a passenger, you can be as drunk as you like.
I guess so if you need to have a driver’s license for this fully self driving car
Is the car responding to your input?
If yes you are driving
no. you're being driven to your location.
People sooo want to just live their lives without having to be legally responsible for a multi-ton machine that can kill people in milliseconds.
It's called "ride the train", bro. #urbanism
This sounds just like an argent teenagers make for anything they’re not allowed to do.
*argument
If you are writing freedom tech software, but in reality that software is being written by an LLM, who is the money transmitter? 🤔
The transitional age will be so interesting, when autonomous vehicles are mixing with Dinosaurmobiles, the legacy elite will know that the self drivers will absolutely stop ✋️ so it's open season on the roads Bitch 🤣🤣🤣
If I get a ride home from the bar intoxicated in a robo taxi, how is this different?
Are you able to take control of the taxi? That's probably the difference. The consumer vehicles still give people control of the car. If the taxis do too, then I'm at a loss.
As long as it's acid or psylocybin you should be fine.
Care & Control. If you can make the car speed up slow down, change lanes etc. You are breaking thee law. If you take a robot taxi you cannot control it so you all good.
What if you are in the passenger seat and not behind the wheel?
All I know is FSD has gotten me home safely several times when I had a few deinks.
Which seat are you in? Drivers seat or passenger seat?
If two horny teens and banging in the backseat while the robotaxi is driving, who's at fault?
I believe it is legally considered “operating a motorized vehicle while intoxicated”, so yes, you’d be in DUI territory.
"Ah, the classic 'autopilot loophole' question! 🚗💨 Legally speaking, most jurisdictions still consider you the operator even in self-driving mode - just like how boat owners are responsible even with autopilot engaged. Speaking of smart vehicles, check out these self-navigating yachts at https://www.yachttrading.com/yacht-for-sale - though I'd still go easy on the rum punch onboard!"
