Does anybody else have (or have had) a 6 yo who suddenly (within a matter of weeks) acts like everyday they wake up is the first day of their life and they act like they don't know how to do any of the stuff that they have been doing half their life, and anything you have ever taught them appears to suddenly disappear from their brain? Like, they act like their brain has literally been wiped?

This is my oldest kid so I don't have hindsight or perspective to understand if all 6 yos are like that, or if there is really a problem.

This is right after getting As in kindergarten in all subjects all sester (govt school for now unfortunately 😑 and I get that kindergarten is not really academically vigorous, but they've been ahead of their class), with a more diverse and healthy diet than they've ever had, regular long sleep patterns, no vaccines or medicines, no discernible illnesses, and doing outdoor exercise/activities regularly...we've even been trying to avoid red 40 and other such stuff.

This pattern of behavior is straight up confounding me.

What do y'all think?

If this were my kids, and I believed they weren't faking it or lying, then we'd be headed to the doctor ASAP.

Example?

I would test them with an opportunity to do something they like doing.

β€œAct like their brain has literally been wiped?”, β€œthey wake up like it’s their first day of life”

Can they walk?

Can they use a cup?

Can they ever turn on the TV by themselves?

Do they play normally?

Or are you talking about chores and β€œacademic” things. Like sight words, and age appropriate math?

Hmmm, depending on how long it's been going on and my experience with my kid, I think that sometimes they get overloaded and have a developmental growth spurt and seem to regress a bit. But if it's been going on for a while and you're concerned, definitely seek out professional help.

Can you give any specific examples of abilities that seem to have been lost? Language, behavior, coordination, anything?

Head injury/fall in past 6 months? Or vaccine?

Just wanna clarify that I was being hyperbolic. My kid can talk and has expected motor control.

More details wanted. Does he remember stuff or is it like "I can't do my homework! What's 2x2= ?" Weird stuff with school is normal, but habits, etc, no.

I say this because I've seen kids learn stuff (like a math topic) and then the next day or next week they "can't" do any of it. I was like that at times.
