Unlocked Pixel 8 Pro (512gb) acquired; 2030 #GreatReset device getting dialed in.

Why?

+ 7 year support

+ hardware memory tagging

"8th generation Pixels also bring support for the incredibly powerful hardware memory tagging security feature as part of moving to new ARMv9 CPU cores. #GrapheneOS has experimental support for hardware memory tagging in hardened_malloc available as a user-facing option in the advanced security settings and is quickly moving towards having it enabled by default. It will be used more extensively in the future and is a game changer for protecting against exploitation."

Thanks for continuing Laser's work by the way

It's me, ding dong.

how much is the sats damage for this sovereignty preserving device?

I'm looking to acquire something and thought of cheaper Huwawi ones to install GrapheneOS on

You can't install grapheneOS a huawei. You can pick up a used 6a for pretty cheap and install it on that.

Around $1200 for this setup.

You'll most likely have a Pixel 10-14 before the #GreatReset.

might have to acquire this myself 👀

I was just shopping these this morning

I went from P7 Pro to Pixel 8. My choice was based on size. They just getting too big for my pants pocket.

I've had every Pixel except #4 and I always adapt to the size. I draw the line here lol.

The hardware differences between the regular and pro were more narrowed this time around, it seems like.

I spoke too quickly. Just as with the 7 series, the 5x optical zoom only comes with 8 Pro. Shit. I was able to cancel and reorder.

I guess I'll be adapting to bigger again 🤣🤣🤣

But seriously...that extra optical zoom on my 7 Pro is a game changer.

Graphene is cool. I use Calyxos currently but am good with either.

Question though. How come there is no official client for the well known privacy sims. Graphstr / Calyxtr lol.

seems like privacy sim added to ecosystem plugs one more hole doesn't it?

Battery life in GrapheneIS is trash. My pixel 6a is basically always plugged in.

Really? My 6a battery life is fine, however batt. life is subjective and very dependent on configuration, brightness and screen on time, on wifi, on cellular with good reception, on cellular with bad reception, a lot of switching between 5G/LTE, hotspot use, sandboxed Play Services, user profiles running in background, VPN usage, bluetooth use, multiple apps running websockets with battery optimisation exceptions and so on and so forth.

Bluetooth usually on. VPN rarely on. Everything else default .I charge like three times a day.

That's not right, at all and definitely not a GrapheneOS specific issue at all otherwise we'd be seeing a lot more feedback on it. Battery life across the board on GOS is either comparable to stock or better due to reduced system level footprint of no privileged Play Services.

That's odd to hear. I've heard others complain about the battery life with graphene too. So I figured it was something I couldn't help. I never used stock I bought this phone for grapheneOS but it last no where near asing as my old one plus 6.

I haven’t experienced that myself. I wonder if there’s a good FOSS battery monitor app? I see a couple on F-Droid but have no experience with any of them.

With all due respect you're full of shit. Just scroll through these comments.

Sounds like it’s maybe Google Play Store sandbox that’s the issue? I don’t use that. That’s not enough to draw any conclusions but maybe a variable to consider.

I mean, that's the main reason I use GrapheneOS over Lineage or /e/. Don't get me wrong it's still worth it. I love that I can occasionally run Google services and not be other times. But it clearly destroys battery.

Not the case for my pixel 4

what is hardware memory tagging?

If I had to guess, it allows programs to tag memory usage so that it can be physically limited in access to those programs alone by the hardware/low-level interface.

This likely prevents memory attacks which represent a large and difficult to mitigate class of exploits.

Welcome to the team

Hell yes

How did you acquire it? Able to avoid KYC?
