Agree, but no one knows what network effects are either.

People are going to come for the features, and that they are unique features they can’t find elsewhere.

Zaps is one such reason. A single key to a whole ecosystem of useful micro apps is another. Instant global translation might be yet another.

As for developers, the fact it’s entirely open, permissionless, and fast-to-start wins all.

I’m actually here for the tech

Early adopters usually are

To me, it’s about decoupling UX from ID and content. It’s easy for anyone to take their ID to another client and see all their content preserved. That content is hosted on relays that are themselves interchangeable.

Centralized systems, which rely on corralling users into their walled gardens, simply can’t compete.

I think most people have a hard time believing that ethics and morality can align with profitability, but they certainly do because what’s ethical and moral can be defined as that which works best for a collective of individuals.

I think?

That’s the way, mainstream people don’t care censorship or network effect! 💪🏼

100%

the way I see adoption playing out is people adopting apps because they are better than the alternatives without knowing they are using nostr nor realizing the benefits of reusable keys across a world-wide range of applications (which happens to include social media)

all the benefits of private/public cryptography will be realized later by most, but there will be a single use case that feels 100x better for each person individually.

One truly killer feature will be to provide an alternative for video (YT) creators that escapes the demonetization traps they live with now.

I was listening to Mr beast and he said YouTube creators get paid pretty well. Not sure how true if he’s biased. It would make sense for YouTube to pay them well to keep everyone happy. Not sure if that’s as big of a problem as some may think 🤷‍♂️

1-click login with #nostr

1-click payments with #lightning

The decentralised natur of Nostr makes is difficult to add cross-group network effects (Advertisers;Thank god they stay away). Nostr is a pure within-group social network currently, hence the attraction for like minded bitcoiners

Good points but I have a kinda dumb question - zaps are definitely cool but are they sustainable?

1. Even with super-easy onboarding on wallets like WoS/lntips/Alby and the initial zaps from kind people, how does reloading work??

Is it Fiat -> bitcoin through some exchange -> lightning wallet, if someone doesn't already own bitcoin? And how easy/cumbersome is each step?

2. Maybe for people who dabble in digital arts be it music/memes/articles/sketches, circular economy may work (partially). And even for them, lack of a discovery mechanism may not be helpful.

Zaps are for the most part not the end goal. They're only the means. And for a social network that means community & engagement- while it's cosy & welcoming now, as it grows, will it be at the same time big enough to accommodate niche interests but small enough to not make anyone feel like one in a crowd? (There's some semblance of reco now with similarity bot, maybe there'll be more).
