#asknostr

Are private Communities / Groups possible on nostr? Only members of the group can see the notes there, even if you follow someone who is a member of the group you wouldn't see the notes by that member unless you are part of that Community. That sort of thing.

Is that possible now/ever?

Similar problem to private group chat it’s not solved yet. You can do it but it’s essentially going to be a group chat.

If you’re looking for a private Reddit type experience I haven’t heard of anything yet.

There are moderated communities like Reddit on Nostr but I think all the posts that are allowed are publicly available.

I see. Maybe I'm thinking of it in the wrong way. Communities like subbreddits don't need to be private. Just curious. There could be a middle ground of community posts not showing up in your feed, which it currently does. Notes would still be public of you went within that community, just not broadcast to all followers all the time.

Gotcha yeah totally possible. I agree and think that moderated communities (like Reddit) on Nostr should use an event kind other than 1 to make sure it doesn’t show up on the general feed of Twitter-like clients.

But that’s not how NIP 72 is defined right now.

no need to use nostr for everything

true, I was just sort of thinking of Communities more like a message board / forum, rather than a subbreddit

Ok let's say that I've not heard that.

to solve any problem, with json in WebSocket, is understandable, but very primitive and certainly unrealistic 😅

NO.

you don't get to act like you have superior taste in music / film.

i will always come to rain on your parade.

I think this is the wrong thread lol. But you liked midsommar 🤭 so I cannot take this statement seriously 😼😼😼

😽😽

Midsommar was basically a Twist on a 1973 Horror Classic "The Wicker Man"

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070917/

i thought both were great though i actually watched Midsommar first.

Yeah it is really, I think it wears that a bit too much for my taste and doesn't appeal to me as aesthetically as wicker man. I just couldn't get into it at all, preferred Hereditary even.

I haven't actually watched the wicker man remake. That might be fun. Kinda looks maybe awful tho.

have you tried movielens.org algorithmic film suggestion engine ?

i always try to avoid horror movies but movielens has discovered that i actually rate horror movies higher than any other genre

basically i seek out pleasure ( porn, erotic, romantic movies ) and try to shelter myself from the pain ( horror ) but light viewing tends to skimp on substance so i end up rating horror flicks higher ...

I haven't, never heard of it. Will definitely try, thanks. I think you get very quickly desensitised to horror the more you watch, I now that's a cliche but it also seems to be true. But there is a satisfaction of seeing films working within the format, tropes and formulas of genre film, but for me especially enjoyable in horror. It's sort of quite rigid, so can be interesting to see how things are played with inside parameters. But horror does actually very quickly lose the shock/scare /pain factor. Maybe it's best to keep it tho and watch in small doses ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ does feel like that to me.

i actually will not consume anything that is rigidly within a genre - whether film or music. i demand that every piece must be as original as possible. Hereditary towards the end turns into a Horror cliche which ruined an otherwise brilliant movie for me. If i listen to a track and i recognize a beat pattern i immediately skip to the next one. The point is to innovate.

you could certainly argue that Wicker Man was better but 50 years is a fair amount of time - it was due for a remake.

Midsommar has beautiful color that you simply couldn't capture 50 years ago.

private community for Jews to plot our evil plots would be nice, though.

an online synagogue of Satan !

probably possible to make communities but wont be private, lots of stuff that supposed to be private arent private on nostr; last online, amount of sats sent/recieved, who you communicate on dms, mute list, client devs probably could see more of its users private infos; the only argument theyll give you is if you dont like it go make your own client 🤷🏻‍♂️
