I’m suspicious that when one posts a photo, they’re revealing some unintended metadata.
Can someone comment on that?

A lot of photo editors let you view and edit the metadata in your photo files these days. Apple photos for example let you see the info and I think let you edit it (haven’t tried to do this yet ) Typically they have time date location info.
Use a service to remove exif information. I use ExifEraser on Android.
Use this app on android if you have that, to strip away phones metadata. You just Share.. pick Scrambled app.... which cleans and pops up share menu again so you can share to your messaging apps cleaned up in single shot almost

It depends, you can check some of the fields here
Metadata2go.com
And see location here.
Pic2map.com
Some image compression in messaging apps remove some of it. And you can choose to not store location on iOS for example. But I believe it’s on by default.
All thoughtful responses, thank you. People don’t seem shy about using nostr to share photos. I will study on controlling one’s exit information a bit. Is there a similar option for iOS devices?
Nostr.build removes metadata at upload. Of course it’s better to remove before manually, don’t trust verify…
Do you mean the exif data stored in the file, or things that happen to be on the photo but should not?

Data in the file
I use a screen / region capture tool, never use pictures directly from the camera. I don't have a smart phone, but even if i Had I would not use it for making pictures.
Apart from that I believe that the pictures themselves possibly revealing information are the bigger issue.
