This npub is so hard to find, on Nostr, that we're having to construct an entire set of websites and relays, just so that people can see my notes.

So rare 🐑

Rare sats

Can somebody please explain what nostr is, and what this app damus even is lol. I’m so new and lost

Damus is a Nostr app. Nostr is the protocol for how to format the notes.

Sort of like how e-mail is the protocol and Gmail or Thunderbird or Outlook is an e-mail app.

Ohhh okay. First of all thank you for replying omg. Second of all- so in a sense- this is almost like a Reddit/twitter, but it’s anonymous and not owned by anyone? Almost like we’re talking within a crypto currency like bitcoin ? But instead of coins it’s users lol?

Also - what are zaps?

Little Bitcoin tips we give each other. It uses the Lightning network, but it's little zaps instead of big strikes.

Am I able to get zapped? Or do I need to set up something for that? Also - is it tipping like how live streamers get tipped?

Yes, it's tipping, but with real money.

You can setup a custodial wallet with #Minibits. Just make sure to move the Bitcoin to a real Lightning wallet, like Alby or Phoenix or something, if it starts stacking up.

nostr:npub1kvaln6tm0re4d99q9e4ma788wpvnw0jzkz595cljtfgwhldd75xsj9tkzv is another npub that nobody can find. 😂

No idea why.

Oh! And... The next thing to understand is that we don't have accounts. We have keypairs that let is unlock and interact with things. Since there isn't a Google or FB or MicroShaft to arbitrate who can and can't use their systems, nostr is what I call "massively interoperable." Imagine never needing to do dumb login stuff ever again!

That’s INSANEEELY convenient and cool. Genuinely. Thanks for the explanation.

It is. I hate everything else on internet now. 😅

Yeah, it's a decentralized network.

The Nostr protocol supports many types of "messaging" applications... and the protocol is being extended continuously to support more.

Different clients can specialise on one type of activity... Or be super clients that do a lot.

#amethyst is an android "super client" that does many of the above

Thank you SO much for this info! I really appreciate this.

I've found that trying to @ certain people is difficult at times, even if I'm following them.

Nobody looks at follow lists, when constructing the @ query, that's why.

One minute, let me go add that to Alex. That's smart.

Okay, I now pull the kinds 3, 30000, 39089, 39092 when you login and cache the results, and then I check and update the cache, if it's stale, at every @ query, to make sure I don't miss anyone.

Just pushed that to an active PR. The guys love when I make major changes to an active PR.

That should have been really obvious, but it wasn't.

Another issue is that they aren't checking your outbox relays for your lists, so their data is stale, but we have that covered.

You’re a star here . Easy to find 🤗

I haven’t touched my profile in ages and it was time stamped so long ago it was considered ded and it got garbage-collected across the board. 🤦‍♀️

Maybe it's because I only publish to a few relays.

I find you, now. I developed the profile search, to ensure it finds some hard-to-find people.

yay 😁

still tho, i do wonder sometimes what is 'wrong' with these other clients.. or wrong with me i suppose. 😂

Profile searches are notoriously difficult on Nostr.

local or remote personalized cache makes it easier yeah..

🤔 that's lame, but understandable. this is why i dont like nostr clients relying on search engines. if it cant be bothered to even look at anything but some dogshit nip50 search with a gazillion odells polluting itself into oblivion.. like, i cant fix this level of insanity. lol. i publish my metadata and relay lists as far as i think makes sense, even to aggregators. sometimes clients hate the spaces in my name.. 🕊️ i should not have to update my profile daily or use primal just to be found.

sned halp

Oh, I find you, don't worry.

Did a profile clean up thanks

Had no idea how to ! But this is what I was prompted to do thanks

the problem went away once you used nostr.land :)

Another boost has been #Jumble adding theforest 🌲 to the default relays. A bunch of us became "viewable without login" for the first time, and lots of people now use Jumble to see those more-diverse feeds and find new npubs.

We finally broke through the Primal Wall, I think. It's only a tiny little hole, but there's definitely a leak.

shadowbanning is real?

I'm heavily muted and not whitelisted, so you have to follow me, to see me, or look at the global of relays I'm visible on. And then you have to make sure that the security features and client blacklists don't filter me out, as spam or porn.
