Paying for nostr is great and noble and all but at this scale it doesn’t make any economic sense. You’d need people to pay massive amounts every month to see any noticeable revenue and that’s asking too much I think. I’m willing to bet nostr users that already pay for various things are spending much more money than any person would on similar tools in legacy world.

Not saying it’s not a good idea to keep doing that, but be mindful when asking people to pay when they are already likely going over the top. Either wait for scale or make something worth that additional asking fee.

The good thing is people don't have to pay anything to use nostr but their experience wont be the same. So at the end of the day it comes down to what the individual expects from nostr, what they do to reach their expectations (lists, self-moderation, running their own relay, paying for relays, setting up their own mute lists and muted words etc etc).

In many ways that's once again just like Bitcoin. Your experience varies greatly depending on the wallets you're using, LN, main-net, running a node or not running a node.

Does the paying come from relays transmitting ones content or from running the relay oneself to save ones content?

I don’t think the money is a major issue. How many people pay for Netflix of chat gpt subscriptions? I think it’s the idea of going in regularly and making multiple payments to different things. I don’t mind the annual approach, but would be cool if there was a toggle at the wallet level where you could pick and choose your services you like to support and just pay monthly in one lump

I think bolt12 enables that

Do paid relays get reply guy?

Doubt it

When we have relays that also store content (like large videos) they’ll be more value for their money.

But here in Europe using Instagram means either seeing advertisements or paying about $15 per month.

Yes, per month. Nobody pays this I think, but if that is the competition than we might have a chance against the legacy world.

For scope, I pay about the same for nostr stuff as I do for all my other subscriptions.(given that's probably not much compared to some) It's overkill for what I do, but if I were more concerned about my content or reach, I think it would be on par with the minimum needed to streamline things.
