The whole world is basically Orwellian my guy. Lol

Orwell is like Frankenstein and we’ve been living in Saw

We should all stay committed to our internal bullshit radars.

My guy, you work for Kasparov and believe democracy (mob rule) will lead people out of tyranny 😆 You can only vote your way in..

Nope.

Dictator on a bitcoin standard. Nice

Huh? He's an IMF cuck.

I don't think Orwellian is the right term for this. It's just a power happy politician grabbing power. Happens always, happens everywhere and happens through the entire history of nationstates.

In the mean time. The posterchild of democracy, the USA, is rolling out an AI surveillance grid that even Orwel couldn't imagine. The Palentir, Stargate, geniusact combo is scary AF. Software is free to copy, so after the rollout in the US, surely the rest of the world will get it 'for free' in exchange of some data. Maybe there should be some more focus here?

Don't get me wrong nostr:nprofile1qqs9336p4f3sctdrtft2wlqaq5upjz9azpgylhfd3dplwf005mfrr9spzamhxue69uhkummnw3ezuendwsh8w6t69e3xj7spz3mhxue69uhkummnw3ezummcw3ezuer9wct4lwjj , I love the work you do with HRF and your research into the IMF and World Bank. You just still have a stubborn flawed program in your head that democracy is somehow good 😁

Bitcoin fixes this.

There’s no way this could go wrong.

Dude has taken El Salvador from the most dangerous country in the world to one of the safest in the world. In an ideal free and open market, government doesn’t exist, but to the extent it does exist, the good ideas should be rewarded and the bad ideas expunged from returning

I think we are poisoned with our reality that govt is pretty awful and thus the less time people are there the better. But for salvodorians their govt has been 10x worse and now they have someone they believe makes them and their country better by every measurable metric. So it’s pretty fucking elistist (nay I say privileged) to impose our ideology and biases towards govt on them.

Can’t say I disagree with any of that. Western regime changes obviously haven’t worked out for the average human around the world. And while every government is worth criticism given the nature that all governments are legalized monopolies of coercion, Bukele is one of the last I would care to criticize given that he’s made El Salvador a freer and more open market than before. On its face this story would seem like El Salvador is moving towards making Bukele a monarch, but reality tells us they’re actually doubling down on freedom and rejecting past failure. Just like if a CEO makes a company record profits, you would like to see that CEO remain in his position rather than fire him after 4 years and hire someone who might tank the company.

There is absolutely no way someone can spin the elimination of term limits into a positive thing.

I used to think this, and now I'm not so sure term limits are as important as I used to think.

Nobody should ever have even the possibility of "ruling for life" I don't care how popular they are. That's not healthy for society and I don't care how uncorruptible anyone thinks they are.

If we were talking about like a mayor of a city that affects like 250k or fewer people that would be one thing but we're talking about a position overseeing millions that can basically arbitrarily sweep anyone as a criminal and silence dissidence.

He only has, like you say the possibility of ruling for life. Maybe he does a great job for 30 years and then they get rid of him. He still has to be voted in. Also if you got to El Salvador you will understand just how insanely popular Nayib is.

Maduro was popular too, look how that turned out. Who would have thought that a government that can arbitrarily incarcerate people would be popular?

Yet, we will see them try

During Napolean’s first tenure as First Consul the sham government voted him into a second ten-year term in the same office. Shortly afterwards they approved him to be First Consul for life.

We all know what happens next. He became emperor.

Remarkable how many people slurp this guy.

Less than US

I said that 2 years ago that he would change the laws so he could run longer. From what I remember he said he was a "cool dictator" so it was okay.

The paid Bitcoiners who are probably fake Bitcoiners are going to side with El Salvador because he is a "good dictator"

Always thought El Salvador was a fraud

Have you ever been there to check it out on the ground? Hear the opinions of the people living there?

Oh well, that's where democracy inevitably leads at some point.

Dictator in the making.

good for El Salvador, it will make it harder for commies/jews to infiltrate and regime change the country away from Bukele

Best state is no state

i don’t think any of us will truly grasp the level of temptation to fall to into corruption

South America 101

We all knew it was headed this way, when he insisted on making that terrible Chivo wallet.

Yikes!

El Salvadorans that I’ve talked to in DC love this guy. Beats 40 years of gang war.

Looks good to me

Next step monarchy

Bukele made his country safe for his citizens. Go back in history and check out who was running the country before he hit the scene. And they weren't even elected.

All very well to throw bricks at him. And yet you are the very same ones screaming blue murder over semantics . You have very short memories .

“Facts do not cease to exist because they ignored” - Aldous Huxley .

If you can’t see the authoritarian moves happening with the expulsion of journalists and the moves to consolidate power, I don’t think there is much hope for you in geopolitics.

Why do we care?

Democracy is a joke.

Retards voting makes your country retarded.

Of course I understand Bukele's intent. You can apply the same policy to Zimbabwe, North Korea, even Ukraine.

It will be like Canada. The hell on earth.

I don't remember this in 1984. Maybe another book, or I need to read it again.

Many things around us are very precisely Orwellian.

Every single one of them. Now Trump's turn.

Meh, if he's popular and keeps winning elections. So be it.
