About 18 months ago, I cancelled my home insurance.
Now we're about 2 days away from being hit by a tropical cyclone.
The sats I've saved aren't going to go far in rebuilding.
My house is on a hill and unlikely to be flooded. Strong winds & falling trees are my biggest threat.
Taking responsibility for everything can be hard to swallow sometimes.

Anchor the bad trees / limbs with some ropes or just fell them if they are really bad.

I have no regrets, I was just hoping I'd have a few years before something like this happened.
Whatever happens from here, I will be ready to act when needed. I don't need to ask anyone (eg insurance companies) for permission.
Generator is ready, I have plenty of fuel & beef in the freezer. LFG!

As soon as the homestead is paid off I'm getting rid of the insurance too. It's the right move in my opinion.
Yeah insurance feels a lot like gambling.
As much as I'd hate to use it, I've got enough Bitcoin to rebuild should it go badly.

I hadn’t told my hubby, didn’t want him to worry unnecessarily but I told him last night, decided it better he know before he might find out under different circumstances. Luckily we have deep gratitude and we believe in a benevolent universe.
The only consolation I have is that I haven't renovated (it's in need of it).
If I'm honest I could use a new roof.
Fingers crossed it passes without damage.

Yeah it's a bit too late to be dealing with catchments. We have about a day before it hits.
Luckily I'm pretty high in the local water course & most of the rain will be hitting the gold coast & northern NSW.
I've no doubt my dam will overflow. Hopefully it won't cause too much damage to it.

The cyclone ran out of power before it hit even the coast. It's now just a slow moving low pressure system.
It's still going to dump a lot of rain, but most of it will land to the south of me.
We had a few tree branches fall down but no damage to property here. I didn't even lose power.
