I get people don’t like Elon but if it wasn’t at least in part for him a lot of present dialogue wouldn’t exist, old twitter used to ban so many people and ie actual experts during covid (among other things and not limited to covid)

I wish I knew whether damus was configured correctly, I get no reactions on posts (which is fine, I’m not super interesting) except the occasional spambot but at least that should be a sign my relays are working

We don’t get flowers like that

Where do you live fucking narnia?

Some cats have perpetual bitchy face even when they’re not grumpy lol

Dk64 was such a great game

I keep getting surprised every time I see your bigger dog

The white around the face is just so striking

Google has the censorship problem everyone complains about but they were among the first on the scene to seemingly offer an actual usable product of search (of course it got steadily worse and is now actively politically captured), they’ve also come up with some really neat research but can’t seem to keep a product going

Apple is accused of monopoly type behavior, although some people enjoy a device which is locked down (and for example hinders facebooks contact scraping of WhatsApp) and I think they take privacy somewhat seriously

Both apple and Google were guilty of banning parler

Facebook censors too and is increasingly unusable as a product; Zuckerberg is a bit of a slime ball and his company liked to man-in-the-middle your email address and replace it with a Facebook address (making data portability harder and also has the effect that people don’t notice messages people sent them trying to get in touch until years later). I think he’s a criminal. And yet the Russia involvement in the 2016 election seems to have been a hoax? So is Cambridge analytica just a nothing story?

Why can’t we just fucking have one platform that does everything right for once?

The point is they share data with Facebook including scraping contacts

There isn’t a meaningful way to opt out, whereas apple keeps granular kinds of permissions

He’s right, although there’s obviously specific craft that goes into acting (professionally)

Fun fact, I think they became friends, and Cavett famously suffered from depression, and he would do these shows and feel like he was falling apart, and Brando told him to watch his tapes back… and when he did he realized that he appeared perfectly normal on the outside while being tormented on the inside

I’m conflicted because apple does also tend to set clear rules and seems to be the antidote to antitrust takeovers like WhatsApp (how do you at a granular level prevent scraping and importing of contacts?)

Are you into ebooks at all or are you strictly a physical book person?

I’m not saying absolutely everything Facebook is accused of is true, but the reason it’s such a mess is because people live in tech bubble 2.0 and they continually excuse the horrible things Zuckerberg does “because he’s a genius!”

Yeah scale is nice but it doesn’t hurt MySpace shot themselves in the foot and web technologies evolved around facebook’s time

When your friends join a service you join a service

If they were in any way serious for STARTERS they’d fix the drastically non chronological feed

We’re in that sort of transitory zone before gdpr enforcement has really kicked in and it’s about to become actually flagrantly illegal to do this

(I hope?)
