off track from this a little..
i've been thinking of this concept a lot lately, this idea of how society can get completely convinced that something so insane and cruel like slavery is the right thing and an economical boost and it spreads globally. The only large communities who fought for the freedom of slaves early on were the pirates. It took a long time for people to come to a realisation that slavery was so messed up.
The other idea is extreme cruelty during war. most people don't go around shooting everyone randomly, raping women, forcing children to shoot their parents. The RUF rebels in Sierre Leone did this in the name of recruiting child soldiers and this kids who were so innocent become wrapped up in this cruelty and it replicates.
In the book Tipping Point by Malcom Gladwell, he talked about a suicide trend in South Pacific islands of Micronesia. Prior to it, it was unheard off. And then one young teenage boy committed suicide because of some problems he had with a girl (or two girls) - and eventually it became cultural. Arguments with parents and the kids commit suicide
And you see this similar pattern through the influence of Bollywood movies and the rise of emotions. The influence normalising drugs usage and selling among black kids. The list goes on and on
It's so easy to get trapped into a "cultural" bubble. Scary even
I love the philosophy behind this - that the imperfection and brokenness one has gone through makes them more beautiful because of it.
Reading about Sierre Leone this week, a book called 'A long way gone' by Ishmael Beah, narrating his life when he was only 12 during the rebel wars in the 90's - fleeing from village to village, loosing his family, seeing people get killed, burnt, raped, chopped and eventually becoming a child soldier at the age of 13 to fight against the rebels because there was no other way to live.
The rebels (RUF) with their AK-47s rose to power to topple the existing corrupt leader but were extremely violent and believed the only way to gain attention was by killing everyone. The British stepped in to help in the 2000, 9 years after the war started. The war ended ended in 2002.
Ismael was rescued by the Unicef in '96, had to go through drug rehabilitation process. He was a good kid - the first half of the book was him running from village to village starving, trying to survive - but went through a phase of extreme violence and drugs when he was recruited as a child soldier. A nurse Esther helped him psychologically with a lot of counseling, and he shared his story in NY in '96. Ismael went back to Sierre Leone - given his family died, his uncle in Freetown (capital of Sierre Leone) adopted him - but he was killed a year later in the war too.
Ishmael knew he was either going to be a child soldier again or get killed if he did not flee. He managed to escape through a neighboring country, to the US permanently.
Many times throughout the book his love for rap music saved him but all other times you end up bawling your eyes out. Today. Ishmael Beah is a human rights activist.
There's still many problems across the continent of Africa, blessed with natural resources but often abused. The movie Blood Diamonds was set during this time as well. There's still several hundred thousands of child soldiers around the world.
Sierre Leone is a small country with a population of 8.4 million people. It is is slowly healing - but with inflation over the past 42 years swinging between -3.3% and 178.7%. I can't help but think how beautiful it would be to have Bitcoin here - and for all parts of the world to be given a real fighting chance to heal.
War is heart breaking. If we do not end the war, the war will end us.

haha no, it's normally sweet and nice. Maybe diff country grows/imports diff types. Make sure its ripe though, and don't eat the seeds - scoop them out. In comparison on the smell, papaya is harmless compared to durians =)
Bario salt found in the highlands of Borneo, from a salt spring that has been long a Sarawak tribal practice (Kelabit) in salt production. Back in the days it was used to preserve meat, cooking and also health preventive maintenance (tribal way). This salty spring water is evaporated, put into bamboos pipes and burnt to harden it, and later wrapped in big leaves to keep it dry. It’s brownish, unbleached natural process of obtaining salt. This is a small tribe of slightly over a thousand Kelabit people still residing up on the highlands of Borneo.

yeap, spot on. Israel is very significant to the Christians too because its in the Bible. For my mom, going there was akin to pilgrimage. But in my country which is predominantly Muslims & far right, Jews are demonized to promote "unity among Islam" and support Palestine. Anyone with Israel passport cannot enter my country - which is silly - because if you are a Palestinian, you have an Israel passport anyway.
And during these types of religious war, far rights will start campaigning on boycotting "made-in-Israel" products (while drinking Starbucks and using Intel chips). And governments become religious magnets to draw them in.
Another way to look at this is that all the very very rich 0.01% people in the US who funds politicians are pro-Israel. Venture funds are the most easiest to spot - it often includes clauses "only funds Americans and Israels".
That and the arms industry is a trillion dollar industry and it is a nasty industry. They need business. Those who are linked to this - are linked to CIA - to global wars - to very rich people - to politicians.
That, and something always happens nearing election. Whether this will help Biden stay or kick him out idk. Covid-19 kicked Trump out.
I was reading this book "A long way gone" by Ishmael Beah on child soldier in Sierre Leone last night - and how rebels attack countries and recruit them, how they no longer understand right from wrong.
Half way through the book, my face is swollen today from crying all throughout. War is a shitty thing.
The religious oppression is a perfect tools by governments. There is no reason why Jews and Muslims can't live next to each other. They both refer to the Old Testament compared to Catholics and Protestants who are far more different in religion and practice to them.
There will never be a solution over the Holy Land that both sides claim, and that's ok. They can still live side by side in harmony.
But no. Instead of promoting calmness and harmony, governments worldwide promote war and fights. To demonise. To pick sides. For people to come together when they have common enemy. To benefit from having a middle east contact point for war and trade.
Only 2 US president to the best of my memory pushed for peace agenda - JFK and Clinton's Camp David.
Both did not last the presidency
just type in any word and add coin or token to the back and it likely exist, blue coin? absolutely. Pizza coin, you bet. air coin? why not. Pablo coin? it's there too.
if you know of any other that iris and coracle, and you have tested them and absolutely certain it works, then please list it out.
I remember it. It was the first time I had a diff perspective of it through you. Now everytime I keep hearing CBDC, i'm thinking this is a great marketing channel for Bitcoin. You are spot on.
lol, agreed. I think CBDCs will orange pill the world faster though.
The amount of banks making the switch to CBDCs is like dominoes now. And have gotten or waiting for the "green light" from the "central banks" . The aftermath of banks not making money from it, leading to further oppression of the people, is going to be nasty
Conversations are being circulated on not to speak about the Israel Palestine war on chats and social media platforms as gov't is tracking them. Engaging in these conversations for some countries can be considered engaging in unrest or religious threats, and a harm to national security depending on which side you are on - which leads to imprisonment.
It's good that these underlying awareness is slowly spreading. Sad though that people are restricted from speaking about it because this harms democracy. All the more reasons why Nostr is more important than ever.
We also need more clients accessible via TOR.
love this. Was reading about the explorations before 1000AD when leif Erikson and Gudrid established Norse settlement in Vinland America, traveling from Iceland only using star, moon and sun as there were no compass. The Greek, Persian wars that happened before that. The Genghis Khan exploration in the 1200s and the discovery of silk route, Marco Polo in the 1271connecting east and the west. The 1600s and 1700s travel from Europe (Spain, France, Portugal, Dutch, England) to South America and the New World.
Ironically, today is Christopher Columbus's day. He wanted to prove the world was not flat and he did. Instead he said it was in the shape of a pear. And mistaken America for India. But somehow he, not being a Spaniard, convinced the king and queen of Spain to fund his expedition 3 times, and that led to the discovery and establishment of the New World
bots are transforming into people while people are transforming into bots. that's the state of the world

There's also a rise of trolls on Nostr, highly triggered by keywords. There's no conversation or exchange of opinions, except for name calling and shady responses. Often seems like a banshee unleashed. My notification is filled with some arguing with each other. I've seen people dropping out, and i can see how it can be just an unnecessary factor to have in life.
hope you and your family stay safe. they can travel up to 16km inland according to online search

another example of blather posting, where is seems the linked the word "green" in an "ai language software"
now heres some more "horror": what if this either created news or used mind control to make humans act it out so it created real news that seems like fiction ?

its history. Iceland has one of the most closest evidence based history in the world. Would be nice for people to explore details instead of getting triggered by keywords.
reading on the non-linear solar activity (solar minimum waves) and global warming from times of settlement - one of the earliest I've read based on history of population is an era that lasted until 1600s, followed by the little ice age due to a combination of low solar activity and volcanic aerosol as a possible cause of wiping the trace of Norse from Greenland.
Another possible cause is greenhouse gasses. This is an excerpt from the book "How Iceland Changed the World" by Egill Bjarnason evaluating pieces of history based on William Ruddiman's theory.
“Many people think greenhouse gases were mainly released into the atmosphere after the industrial revolution. Ice cores in fact show that carbon dioxide began to appear at greater rates in the atmosphere around eight thousand years ago, parallel to the invention of agriculture and resulting deforestation. Likewise, methane spiked around four thousand years ago, when farmers in East Asia began to use wetlands to grow rice. The agricultural revolution caused massive population growth, and thus the cycle of change grew greater and greater until the world experienced a series of pandemics. The black death and other plagues hit Europe in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, and shortly afterward, native people in North and South America were exposed by European settlers to germs completely foreign to their immune systems. Modern research indicates that these plagues claimed more lives than early documentation suggests. By Ruddiman’s theory, these deaths wiped out much of the existing agriculture, reversing the climate trend and eventually causing a temperature decline. By then the Greenland colonies were already struggling, and the sudden shift in climatic conditions delivered the final blow. The black death reached Iceland in 1402 and wiped out nearly two-thirds of the population. The pandemic is not believed to have reached Greenland because no mass graves from the time have been found. And yet the disease still managed to kill off the Norse population"
