Its both - but to escape a scarcity mindset, you need to step outside the perception surrounding you.
Being the first to try something new makes you a pioneer. But in a scare environment, if you fail (and you will encounter many failures), people who don't understand your efforts will judge you harshly. You will have little chances of bouncing back.
Those who've experienced similar struggles would likely encourage you to try again - but in a scarcity environment, it's lonely because there aren't many who have succeeded before. Only when you do succeed, it sets an example - and eventually people would start saying "hey if she or he made it, maybe we can too." And as more step up, more succeed, this gradual shift in perception, will attract the funds and infrastructure, and in the long run it becomes a flourishing ecosystem.
But it's a much longer and painful process to come up in life.
Another challenge of scarcity is limited exposure. When kids are really young, they are all enthusiastic and fearless, but as they get older, kids from scarcity environment become more insecure.
Oftentimes this is due to lack of exposure to diverse environments, and opportunities. Simple things like not having access to selecting what they want to wear will reduce their ability to identify their own taste and interest - and this can also expand into lifestyle, food etc. But they might also explore creativity with what they have, and pick up independence, determination, and learn diff traits.
More often than not, people prefer comfort and would not want to step out of the bubble. A lot of people would be ok having the exact same job for 40 - 50 years so long as they have a stable and safe life. 99% of people will not risk comfort and stability for upward mobility, and rather meet all the checklists that society expects them to meet, in order to fit in and be accepted within their community.
On the contrary, someone from an abundant background has many advantages, such as better infrastructure, mentorship, funding, education and how one is perceived and respected. This environment significantly increases the chances of success - and it becomes easier and faster to come up in life. They would also be more confident, determined, more focused in reaching their goals because they don't have many obstacles to overcome.
However some may not have the urgency or hunger to succeed as there is no dire need or passion, or that they know they can always bounce onto something else. Some might be overwhelmed by the expectation that everyone else assumes that they have life easy and that they will make it, ignoring the challenges that they do go through.
My dad would be an example of pulling us out of low class to middle class - he started off as a forklift driver but he did rent a home for us in a middle class environment to get a diff exposure. Every sunday we would take 3 buses to church in the capital city so that we would have a diff exposure. Every gift was often books. My older brother and sister would create all the toys from scratch or invent their own games. We grew up very poor but we were never lacking. My dad only did his bachelors in his 40s and when he died he had 2 doctorates. He also started a bible college, among many other things, to help a lot of poor people come up in life - those who were battling with alcohol, unable to hold on to jobs etc - to open up their mindset - and their kids are all thriving today. I don't think it was easy what he did with the background that he had to step out of the scarcity mindset but he was determined. I do wish I could ask him all the challenges he went through, now that I understand life a little bit better.
But again i think this is still a very broad conversation. There lies various socio influences, culture, gender, communities, health and diet, socio economic environments, politics, countries etc
what's a perfect grilled cheese sandwich to you ?
lol, true =) tho day to day is both bitcoin and non bitcoin. this is a larger stronger focus on bitcoin and can attract many more bitcoiners out there that may not have heard of nostr. at the same time it can maybe lead to something larger, be part of a larger freedom festival that groups bitcoiners, nostr, and other freedom groups
random thought - lets have a Bitcoin week on Nostr. We can dig in to all the Bitcoin innovations out there, invite innovators to share their stories, attract more funders, go wild with imagination and see how else we can grow bitcoin adoption worldwide. It might just be a global festive here !

Good morning Karnage! Whats for breakfast today ?
After the Africa Bitcoin Conference I went with a small group of people to explore the impact of Bitcoin mining and adoption in Kenya and Malawi. One companion was a well-known foreign correspondent who has been a little skeptical about Bitcoin. But what he saw blew him away. Here is his report, a highly recommend read:

This is wonderful Alex. I remember reading your article a few years back on the lack of electricity in Africa and the potential of bitcoin mining in their countries. It's so nice to see this adoption picking up and becoming a reality. https://bitcoinmagazine.com/culture/bitcoin-is-humanitarian-and-environmental. and lol to football
I predict that in the near future you will be able to create an online presence (with Nostr working under the hood) with an integrated wallet/payment facility.

I think it's great to have the option to build an online presence which benefits creators and becomes a pseudo website with payment gate. I’m not big on public persona but I believe it will benefit a lot of people. It's a nice way of imagining Nostr socials and how big it can grow in the long run, I like it.
that's a great input, i will check it out. I think there are many segments to payments, some want traceability, for instance gig economies are an intersection between individuals and businesses, and some prefer full privacy - and having options for both will be great. the option to convert from fiat to bitcoin from anywhere in the world and vice versa is going to ease up bitcoin adoption tremendously. Thanks for the input!
Here’s a bitcoin story for you this week - more of a question really. My freelance job clients are from all over the world and payment can be a pain. This week was the least painful, I lost 3% from foreign bank transfer fees, but not before the payment was rejected for "suspicion of fraud" because of where I am. Trying to suggest the idea of bitcoin often tends to be difficult - these are high profile folks, but they are not comfortable due to its rarity and some want the audit trail. I am wondering how we can make using bitcoin for payments more common. Do apps like Cash App, which supports both fiat and bitcoin, ease up this transition in people’s minds? Could services like TBD's off-ramp/on-ramp make international transfers more easily adopted by entrepreneurs and implemented globally ? How do you foresee Nostr playing a role in encouraging Bitcoin as payment for goods and services in the long run ?
interesting thoughts. i think when you live in scarcity, people are naturally inclined to survive and be safe, a little of a Maslow influence on society. Those who are driven often might do this out of necessity and upward mobility, but they would struggle because of the little opportunity for growth or to fail, and out of it many would be discouraged. When you live in abundance you tend to have more exposure which builds up confidence There’s also more opportunities and more room to fail and try again. But there might be lesser survival drive to hit certain economical goals. This take is rather broad and there exists more nuance to this. The dynamics of these situations may not be a one-size-fits-all and may vary based on individual circumstances, experiences, and societal factors.

i am using alby, i am guessing it auto authorised. but thanks for sharing!
You might be able to do your masters degree directly based on experience. If it's expensive in the US, you can try other countries with recognised degrees. Might be a great 1-2 years global travel experience as well.
Another option is to explore a consulting niche in cooling solutions for bitcoin miners. Reach out to experienced miners like Derek or Daniel to understand the challenges miners face. This knowledge can help you create effective solutions. You can try by serving 1-2 real customers, crafting solutions to their cooling problems. Set up simple ways to book your services online, and gather reviews. As you get sharper, you can create your own specialization "bitcoin mining cooling doctor."
Another option is to work within the hvac industry - find big players and apply for other roles within sales, marketing, customer support. You already come with hands-on experience so it would be a plus factor. Every experience will add up to your knowledge and skills.
The final bit is how you write your resume. You can say 6 years in hvac repair. Or you can elaborate - worked with 200 F&B businesses on industrial repairs, including both hardware and software components (X, Y, Z). This approach helps potential employers quickly grasp the extent and diversity of your experience. Tailoring your resume to highlight relevant details can make a significant impact, based on what would attract the person you engage.
Setbacks sometimes can be an opportunity for something greater, one you may not have tried, if life was the same day in day out.
You got this.
it was not optional, it was default - which shows that clients can access your wallet anytime.
But who gives the right to tap into the wallet in the first place? the authorisation has to come from the nsec owner allowing this handshake to happen between client and wallets, with an understanding that this data is not visible or consumed by the client, and it not for public visibility, unless the nsec owner choses it to be. Otherwise this is wrong. I dont know if this is a bug in zap NIP but this is a major breach of privacy (cc nostr:npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 - on zap NIP and information visibility)
regardless, now that's an awesome tshirt. I'd totally wear it !
