Beginners guide to building a solar callus and minimizing sunscreen usage this summer โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿงด

- Sunrise: stand outside with no sunglasses for 5 min

- UVA rise: go on a 20 min walk with as much skin exposed as possible and no sunglasses. When UVA hits your skin you start producing melanin to prep your skin for safe UVB absorption

- UVB rise: bask for 20-40 min with as much skin exposed as possible and no sunglasses. UVB is essential for vitamin D absorption and hormone regulation

Most people burn in the afternoon because they donโ€™t prep their skin for UVB. They are inside a majority of the morning and then go roast at solar noon, the most intense sunlight of the day.

Sunrise and UVA exposure are vital precursors to getting optimal, protective UVB.

I left corporate sales to work on farms in Hawaii for 3ish years. Had the most beautiful and difficult experiences of my life living in rural and off-grid communities. Did everything from grueling field work to managing a $1.3 million fundraising campaign for a sustainable agritourism farm.
