Then came to worship new gods in the state, giving it the money to create a war machine like no others before in history.
Well, considering the Black Death caused a large disruption of faith, it mostly harmed the foundation of the church. People moved towards more personal spirituality.
I can understand why. If the Church says it is the sole speaker and truth teller for God, but death still sweeps all of Europe, they clearly weren't telling the truth.
How could a monarchy threaten a populace that had fealt the wrath of their God? No royalty could compare to that collective trauma.
I know little of the specifics myself (not a historian) so I ask these types of questions to hear new interpretations.
From what I have read, it originated from China and slowly worked its way towards Europe. The Europeans were well aware of its approach since they were receiving news on what regions it passed through. The fear made everyone mad, before, during, and after. Some of the peasantry danced in streets littered with bodies.
The Monarchies had little left to threaten them with.
I hadn't heard of the Great London Fire yet. I'll look into it. Thanks!
The Black Death** for clarification
I agree. It seems to be one of the largest contributors to any semblence of freedom in the West.
And with the US moving to a zero reserve system they dont even need to hold anything in the vaults anymore. They can legally gamble it all away!
Gitea is great! Ive been using it for almost a year now and the only problem I have is Cloudflare...
If the Black Death never occured, what do you think the world would look like today?
Didn't he let go so hard he stopped believing in a self?
Well, they attempted to copy the Spanish Empires strategy of setting up meetings with the chieftains and abducting them. They would then be tortured relentlessly until the tribe submitted all their wealth.
Britain tried this, amongst others, and Wahunsunacock didn't fall for it. Smith went back to plead for carpenters instead of soldiers, but it took so long that the entire colony perished. Poor Jamestown.
If the strategy worked for one empire but not another, I would call the attempt a failure. Learning from those failures is what allowed newer trade focused strategies to emerge.
The worst thing about SimpleX is comvincing people to try it.
It was probably the least cruel, but still cruel, colonial empire of the time. I find it funny that the success of their expansion often came from failing to mimic the strategies of other empires of the time.
Like they tried to use the Spanish strategies used in South America and it lost them 2 colonies pretty quickly immediately. Wahunsunacock was not having any of it.
Those are good reasons. They did make an impressive calender. Its also pretty cool they were one of the first civilizations to build millenia surviving structures: mayan pyramids.
Its always cool how many cultures simultaneously discovered the durability of the triangle all around the same time.
I'll have to look into the Mayans more. ๐
The JWST Has Spotted Giant Black Holes All Over the Early Universe

Giant black holes were supposed to be bit players in the early cosmic story. But James Webb Space Telescope observations are finding an unexpected abundance of the beasts.

Many of these early monster may have gone on to become supermassive galatic centres in almost every galaxy.
At that point everything will have infinite value when measured by fiat. If you compared Bitcoin to the Goods and Services within an economy it will have a finite but unstable value.
Maybe somebody is testing some sort of propogation attack ๐คท or we all use the same client and version, and it had a bug
