Diablo IV is good
I’m not a networking minded person, so maybe I’m about to say something dumb. But I feel like changing the way we use relays would be a step toward this.
Rather than aggregating the growing set of relays and treating them like a distributed twitter database, building tools that allow people to explore little community hubs of relays is how I picture it.
As irrigators lead water where they want, as archers make straight their arrows, as carpenters carve wood, the wise shape their minds.
Not saying there weren’t a lot of negative consequences.
My argument is:
Capital markets increase the rate of medical advancements >>
Fiat games “juice” capital markets (with bad consequences, sure) >>
Pharma/biomed is uniquely sensitive to “juicing” because it would otherwise be unattractive to investors (high failure rate, astronomically expensive research costs >>
Insurance model decreases consumer price sensitivity and obscures money allocation, which allowed healthcare to be inordinately profitable. Proceeds from this can then rotate back into research.
Of course, eventually this destroys price signals and feedback loops, but initially it supercharges things. Thus the faustian bargain
I’m sure it fluctuates over time. But I feel safe saying that over the last 50 years, a disproportionate number of medical advances have come out of US based or adjacent private companies
For sure, I think almost everyone “feels” it now even if they haven’t reasoned it out.
But I think many in our circle disagree with the first part
I have a weakly held opinion that recent advances in medicine and healthcare wouldn’t have happened as fast without fiat financing and our whacky insurance based system.
But it was essentially a faustian bargain where we gained miraculous powers of healing in exchange for consumerist society, globalization of key resources, and inflation.
As a species we chose to become lich kings.
I like it, though I’m not sure exactly what it means
As one example, take a look at this. The framing is so wrong. If you’re transacting on some zcash sidechain, you’re not transacting on bitcoin. This does nothing to improve bitcoin privacy. The fact that miners get some fees is irrelevant. If it’s not the bitcoin protocol, it’s not bitcoin.
Drivechains are so fucking dumb, idk how anyone buys the shit they’re pushing
Suddenly ctrl+c doesn’t stop my python script.
Just a few minutes ago that would kill it, but now it does nothing. I didn’t make any changes to the code either. Really strange…
No perfect ideals are attainable. That is why they are ideals, or goals. That is why the great masterpieces of art are so few.
Without the gradation made possible by our imperfect world, including our imperfect minds, we would not notice such differences, and it would be impossible for us to appreciate art at all.
So there would be no art, not to speak of “great” art, -which requires artists to aim at “perfection”- and only imperfect people in an imperfect world can possibly imagine what that could mean.

That which is true, is mine.
