Y’all bringing your young kids to work the farmers market is dangerous!
It all started off fine when he was 2 and wanted to stay in the booth to play with cars & trucks, stuffed animals, etc.
Then he started venturing out to use his market money to buy b-grade peaches and other fruit.
Now all the other vendors know him and just give him free sweets when he walks up with a smile.
Today it was a gluten free donut, an ice cream bar, then a box of cookies.
We do very little sugar at home so this is tricky!
One of the regulars even bought him a little succulent after I said sweets were off the table lol

Yea he likes when we read Franklin and bearenstein bears books
Parents out there- what shows or movies are you letting your under 5 year old kids watch (if any)?
We barely do screens but our older son loves the Peter rabbit series on paramount, and wanted a Peter rabbit themed birthday.
It’s actually pretty good- focusing on not giving up, being brave when you’re scared, and generally exploring the world with your friends/family and looking out for them.
There’s so much garbage out there so am curious about other options that actually positively influence youngins?
Gracias y feliz cinco de mayo!

Ha I actually took a small scrap load today. Always feels good to purge the junk and get paid to do it!
Also anyone in a city- when you’re on a walk bring a bucket and a claw picker and you’ll eventually fill trash bags with aluminium cans (I do live in a dirty area though so ymmv)
What am I doing today that future me will thank me for?
This week I’m thanking past me for a number of reasons, but the biggest being a makeshift back porch that will host our sons birthday party when it’s supposed to rain in a few days.
I’m really digging people on here sharing their “problem is the solution” creative endeavors.
The chicken coop bug zapper and the S9 food dehydrator being the most recent inspirations.
Made me ask myself what are some that I could share..
The most relevant for what’s going on this week is probably how to build something over a broken slab of concrete that is cheap and somewhat easy (definitely easier than jackhammering and hauling off material to start fresh).
Basically just drilled 1/2” holes about 10” down and pounded rebar to hold 4x4 blocks in place on a grid for the joists to screw to.
Laser level got each measurement of the blocks just right. Then Shou Sugi Ban any wood that might touch the slab or water and you’re in business.
Built the deck 3 years ago and the roof a year later and it’s withstood A LOT.
We’ve gone from full trees falling on the roof (dent visible in the 6th pic from today), crazy storms, hosting thanksgiving before the decking arrived (4th pic), and to being the spot where our 2nd son was born in the wee hours of the night.
These are why we do the projects we do right?
Look forward to seeing more of y’all’s creative solutions in the future!
Thanks for reading my novel lol

Anyone looking for cheap privacy fence options- might be worth checking out your local lumber mill to see if they do first cut bundles.
When we built our fence 5 years ago to give us privacy while we built they were $20 a bundle, now $40. Still way cheaper than pickets and most are 8’ tall.
My neighbor wanted to remove some invasive trees along the fence line so we did and I got to replant with about 15 trees from our nursery. #nostrees
Smooth side in 2nd pic, rough side in 3rd. We’ll probably chainsaw the tops to get it cleaner, tbd..

Sometimes you talk with friends on livestreams and magic happens. Today, Rebecca and John shared a bunch about the struggles they had to overcome to build what they have today.
We also really drilled down on the Exit and Build Land Summit and all the cool things that will happen there.
The audio podcast is up!

Just downloaded on fountain and followed your pod.
Thanks for sharing on here
I have 2 6500’s to hook up once I install the panels. Was it all fairly straight forward to set up?
I’ve set up a smaller system in a travel van but all the loads were DC.
Hoping to get as many AC circuits from the house onto this system and off the city electric as possible
You self reliance oriented people need to check this out!

Weedy garden on YouTube is great, an Aussie student of Geoff’s.
Hope he gets on nostr and that videos can be embedded (haven’t worked on #Damus at least)
Was born and raised in GA, but have been in Texas for a good while now.
I’m also a vanlifer in the summer. Have an old t1n sprinter for the whole fam. Will be heading through the southeast to see family on part of this summers expedition
Just bookmarked this.
I started digging one of the channels like they do in Africa but it’s not done yet (so many other projects). In a few weeks I’ll put in an order after I finish digging
Got some milling to do!
My neighbor and I harvested a bunch of unwanted ashe junipers from a friends’s property with acreage.
God bless dump trailers and skid steers (and the friends that own them!)
Hopefully will get enough timbers to finally build the passive greenhouse I’ve been promising my wife (the old windows have been sitting on pallets for years)..

And Joshua- I was going to wait about 3 months from pruning to burning (so that would be next month).
Guessing you’d want a single digit moisture percentage but once the fire gets blazing that moisture is going to evaporate anyways
Haha true in the Amazonians.
Btw thanks for the 1491 recommendation, my wife and I both enjoyed that and 1493!
Letting these prunings dry then it’s biochar time!
Dug an 8’x5’ sloped wall pit and will play with that before investing in any kilns.
Open to tips or suggestions on either of those..
Also does anyone have a good moisture meter for wood to recommend?
I remember Michael Wittman on TSP mentioning some parameters about them but can’t remember..

Yea I’m experimenting with them in pots and in ground. I had to cover the in ground ones (mostly the root zone) and potted ones came into the garage.
They’ll live in the north side of the passive solar greenhouse whenever that gets built
