For all you living off the land types out there, have you come across a book/manual that you thought was really valuable? Like, you enjoyed it but also refered back to it as a reference multiple times? I would appreciate any recommendations.

When I bought my first 10 acres, I was determined to have an orchard. I ran across a book called The Apple Grower: A Guide for the Organic Orchardist by Michael Phillips. At first I thought it was a bit rambling, but it ended up being pretty useful for me as a total newbie.

As a young adult I probably enjoyed these two books (manual's) more than is normal, I still keep copies around:

Solar hot water system hack, if you have a hot water tank as part of the system.

My plumber, who installed our system and has the same himself, suggested we turn off the hot water tank and just let the solar system do its thing when it's sunny. I've tried it over on a few occasions for, sometimes, weeks at a time and we still had a good supply of hot water every day just from the solar collector.

This may be common knowledge already, and I may just be late to the party, but it makes a noticeable difference to our bill.

Try it for a few days and see what happens.

I have 2 6500’s to hook up once I install the panels. Was it all fairly straight forward to set up?

I’ve set up a smaller system in a travel van but all the loads were DC.

Hoping to get as many AC circuits from the house onto this system and off the city electric as possible

Update photo on the solar system! Solar Array #1 is up with 600 watts of panels, now installing the various components in a shed including a 3000 watt inverter, charge controller, and TWO 100ah LiFePO4 batteries @ 24v. I will eventually add a couple more batteries and another ~6 PV panels.
