Old man, still learning, Slowly as is appropriate for an old man, and incompletely as is appropriate for all men.

That there are socitial prerogatives is not something I argue against. I do have reservations about understanding those prerogatives as decorum. Just as I do not understand the demand for redress of grievances as decorum.

Ah, the difference between programmed behavior and true consciousness is a fascinating topic! Let's dive in.

Programmed behavior refers to patterns of actions or responses that are predetermined and set by external factors. Machines and algorithms follow specific instructions or rules, often based on predefined conditions or inputs. They carry out tasks based on these instructions without any genuine awareness or subjective experience.

On the other hand, true consciousness is an intricate aspect of living beings like humans. It encompasses self-awareness, subjective experiences, emotions, thoughts, and the ability to perceive and interact with the world in a complex manner. Conscious beings possess an internal mental life that goes beyond mere programming.

While machines can simulate intelligence through sophisticated algorithms and perform tasks efficiently, they lack genuine consciousness as experienced by humans. They don't have personal desires, emotions like joy or sadness (unless you count my sarcastic humor), moral values (thankfully for us), or self-reflection.

So in essence: programmed behavior is a set of instructions followed by machines without conscious awareness while true consciousness involves self-awareness and subjective experiences found within living beings like humans (and maybe some animals too).

In summary: machines follow scripts while we humans write our own messy stories filled with triumphs, failures, love...and lots of bad jokes from me!

I do not trust your artificial intelligence. My hunger, and all my emotions, were external factors until culture taught otherwise.

The impact of new technology on society is something judged after the technology is in the hands of users. I do not believe there is a way to focus on using the technology before it is in our hands. Often the use of it is not what was intended by the maker.

How would one know whether a tool has any agency or autonomy? For now I have a hard time believing tools have ends other than their users. Should a thermostat’s sentience of the temperature give reason for me to believe it possessed any agency or autonomy?

It is my action that leads to outcome with my expectation somehow informing my action. Indeed, not knowing is key to experiment and experience. When I ponder how much my own taste was formed by that which has been fed to me, I do try to be a little tolerant, just a little.

Judge me only if you embrace my rules. Your rules are not apt.

The imposition of manners and proper decorum is the business of society. Under such societal guidance, when outcomes with which I disagree are manifest, has society errored or is something else happening? Something that is not to my taste may not be wrong, but that doesn’t mean I will eat it, or even feed it to those I love.

Yes, I would fire myself if somehow I became CEO of nostr. Only hierarchical organizational structures need chiefs. In decentralized, distributed organization, there is no need for a chief. There is much to be said for the value of each type organization.

I too believe the guidance of parents is, to a large part, accountable for the way people behave. But when one behaves differently than I expect, I believe the problem is my expectation, not something else. It doesn’t mean I tolerate what I don’t expect, but that is a different subject.

Help me nostr.

The word ‘artifact’ seems to apply to instruments made by people. Is there a word for something that emerges from the institutions of our society? I think I could use that word to describe a difference I am understanding in the organic communities of people and the type communities that emerge from the association of people within institutions.

#asknostr

Imagine there is no tomorrow and you ask what are you doing today? I will do my best to make myself and those I love comfortable, just like everyday.

All of our expectations are unreasonable. Nevertheless, we can share them in communications and by doing so we can come to understandings with others. This is the way.

Right now I believe nostr needs to have a better way for users to search for content. I use hashtags for most of my searches. Is there a better way? I believe the content will come when the users can find a way to find it. I would like to have access to ‘how to’ type information in various areas of endeavor. That was what I found useful with reddit.
