What does Nostr actually need in terms of content ?

What is the type of content that will help Nostr to win out , or to expand or whatever ?

Diversity of content

Diversity

So just more types of different shit then?

I would say a bit of every type of content

Or do you mean , more upper middle class gender studies students and all that shite?

Like more peoples hobbies and specialties. Stuff so that anyone can come here and connect with people on their level

A Sèimi Mac Síomón Podcast

Bless you sir .

I would pay sats to watch this shite!

I certainly wouldn't 😒

Well you would be surprised at how many people would tune into your podcasts.

More humor memes. (Not just bitcoin everything). More freedom memes. How to videos and instructional help. More people in general. More content of all types. Big name Influencers who have a lot of followers. Audio nests that are easy to find and easy to start up. Links on twitter X, to Nostr audio chats. Links on twitter to things going on at Nostr. Relays with certain types of feed.. such as cooking relays, bitcoin only relays, general relays, privacy relays, homesteading relays, basically a way to find what you want.

Think I agree with my reply, although I sort of swapped out influencer for cultural commentators / public intellectuals with a following. Ie people with actual influences rather than The Influencer, who actually has very little influence.

Yeah, I just used a generic name. People who have a ton of followers usually have something they put out that a ton of people want to see or read.

There are more lifestyle / glamour influencers which is what I'm getting at really. Who might have a bit of reach and influence, although very small. They're mostly followed by fairly disinterested horny uncles. That sort of Influencer joining nostr won't bring anyone / anyone of any value. Maybe that sounds a bit harsh lol. Bit we have enough horny uncle devs here already 🫠🫠🫠😉

Yeah, I am not talking about glamour/lifestyle influencers. More like freedom and privacy folks.

Take this guy for example. He has more followers than all of Nostrs active users combined:

Yeah I know that account (not really my kinda thing). I think there's a huge overlap with that guy and people already here / already aware of nostr. Although yeah it would be significant push in user numbers if say he joined and encouraged a lot of people to join. Perhaps wouldn't really bring anything new to the table in terms of content / diversity of content imo.

I'm thinking of people totally outside of BT/CT bubbles. I sort of see that account as still within that.

So who would you see as ideal people coming to Nostr?

Grannies.

Wayne Rooney is on nostr!!! #welcome #introductions

He is in your fucking japs-eye?!

Shit man , you might be on to something. People see sweet little old ladies using Nostr , it'll help round off any rough edges .

Kinda goes hand in hand with the idea of having "lightning bingo".

Hmm not sure how to answer that. How ideal/unrealistic should I go lol?

I'll rattle some off the top of my head who would be ranging from likely to completely unrelated in no particular order lol. And these are not necessarily endorsements fyi

Morgoth, Nina Power, Jay Dyer, Erik Davis, Peter Hitchens, Sam Hyde, Brittany Venti, Justin Whang, Gio Pennacchietti, Delicious Tacos, Bronze Age Pervert, Pope Head, Ariel Pink, Camille Paglia 🤔🤔

But I do see more of a potential / possibility short term in topic-based feed, activity growth. But that is just my biased opinion.

I will check these out when I can. X has me rate limited for now.

Obviously if we're talking about him joining and drawing a seriously large number of followers. Amongst them they will bring along their own interests.

Fewer complaints 😅, but maybe Is more interesting say what feature missing from that client 🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️

Right now I believe nostr needs to have a better way for users to search for content. I use hashtags for most of my searches. Is there a better way? I believe the content will come when the users can find a way to find it. I would like to have access to ‘how to’ type information in various areas of endeavor. That was what I found useful with reddit.

Short term? Conversationalists, funny people, shitposters, people interested in talking about different topics besides the b word.

Longer term, and larger growth.. maybe attracting more cultural commentators , scoring a biggish public intellectual with a following, who is actually active here.

That sort of thing...

I'm attempting at highlighting conversationalists in the n/Discuss community. That's the hope anyway. Just shoe-horning that here. Just in case anyone is interested 🫠

We just need more content. Emotion provoking content

This is sort of why I think Communities are potentially a way of circumventing the Big Names of cultural commentary of whatever, not being here. Topic-based, rather than personality-based feeds. Lively dialogue and discussion. It's just one approach and I literally have no influence even here, but it's an attempt at ...something lol as a non-dev casual 🫠

#Correct

Variety, I think that's obvious.

My brother is too obsessed with #bitchcoin.

If we agree there is wide variety, even if shallow but little interaction and you have to properly search for the content you want. This suggests a few possible things if the content is present.

Creative solutions to encourage interaction. By and large interaction seems pretty thin. Zaps clearly not enough incentive. What about a Boo and cheer interaction as examples? Blow kiss, wink, wave. Could be anything. Make them fun and maybe animated/gifs...different to an emoji. Without having to comment post. Other seemless encouragments. I dunno

Obs search could be improved. With view to assist the searcher, maybe the days popular searches, categories or something show up with search box. Anything that make finding stuff more straightforward or obvious and then initiate/present interaction options should help get the party started dontcha think?

Maybe drop down menus are a bit problematic too. Fewer clicks

Maybe a visit profile link appears, to profile of comment you just responded to after posting. How often do we do that manually anyway

There are things that could be done encourage people push the button for sure, even if my examples are rubbish

Nostr was built for community

more activity/users in Communities and topic centered discussions. Fediverse, Twitter, Bluesky, here, and many Others, have no Shortage of how do I describe this?

'Random' posts. A feed I guess. memes, Conversations with no context, bots, Bitcoin, and pictures of food. There is no shortage of that on most platforms.

What is lacking though, is a more *structured* environment and content Where the information and posts are not just social media, but can later be Used (reddit posts that are indexed and come up in Google when you type in a question)

Are actually useful and become referenced later. mindless scrolling can be found anywhere. that's the entirety of Social media anyway.

But there are practically zero places like #reddit Where you can do *both*

Wrote a whole useful reply and submitted it and is no where to be found. Awesome.

Basically do both. Don't just do the Mindless scrolling of random conversations with no context and memes and cat pictures and bitcoin.

Make it a structured environment where people can have topic centered conversations and discussions and have communities. Where information is not just something you can socially engage in but come back for for reference later.

Think of Reddit post indexed and Google searches when you ask a question.

There's not very many places where you can do both such as Reddit you can be social and media scrolling mindlessly or you can engage in intellectual conversations and learn something and provide useful information to people about a certain topic.

There's only one Reddit there's no other places like it I feel like no sir would do a lot better if it emulated

^ This is going in my letter to Santa Claus :-D

True confessions: I still have a Reddit account. And another on StackExchange.

#hashtags are not my usual way of finding content.

But I also get the technical difficulty and resource requirements of running a modern indexing and search pipeline. We can't push this onto the relays, or soon we wouldn't have any.

It IS possible to do this in the client in a minimal way, but to be better than plain text search its going to have to be a pretty heavy client with a vector database (Milvus?) and a ML model (MiniML?).

Maybe I need to get better at using #hashtags. Its cringe, but old Twitter's "trending tags" concept could be reimplemented in Nostr clients. Build the ranked list locally as an indicator of what tags other nostriches are using, and a guide to what tags to add to ones own content. This can be gamed, of course, but Web of Trust narrows the scope for that quite a bit.

Assuming there's a problem preventing nostr from winning, why think it's the content? Also, win what?

I'm also wondering whether nostr can scale while maintaining its core feature of censorship-resistance and décentralisation?

It'll be very difficult to compete head on with fiat social networks. Nostr advantage is that it's more than just a social network, and we're only starting to scratch the surface of non-social apps that rely on nostr as their back-end. There's a lot to "win" there...

I believe everyone should keep in mind that nostr is a protocol, not the content, and it's just for text (notes and stuff transmitted over relays) That's how it's designed, and for anything beyond that like image hosting or livestreaming, that will need to be (and is, awesomely) set up and maintained as its own "thing".

It's the framework, the rules, for everyone to work together as they see fit, cryptographically ensuring an individual identity.
