During our busiest month of the year (July), we have multiple servers that use between 5-10 Gbps during business hours. Back in the days when we had to negotiate bandwidth with our data center for our highest utilization, we would have been raped 11 months of the year.
AWS is expensive as hell until it isn’t. If you have a highly variable workload over the year there is no better option than the “cloud”.
Nothing like a couple hours of inexplicable network performance issues on the second busiest days of the year to get the blood pumping.

I’ve actually looked for artists to do one off projects and trying to find someone was more work than the project justified.
Turns out artists are terrible at sales and marketing and basic business management. Probably a significant chicken and egg factor, but also lots of personality factors too.
All media is pay to play like this. We have had the number 1 product in our niche for a decade and a half and the trade press has never even mentioned it even when doing profiles on big customers of ours. And they wouldn’t dream of doing a profile on our product the way they did with our competitor’s product.
We have never attempted to bribe the trade press the way our competitor did. Our competitor also had a multinational corporate benefactor who spends obscene amounts of money in the trade rags. Even if nobody at that multinational never explicitly threatened people at the trade press, people understand how their bread is buttered.
Still, five years after our competitor abandoned this niche, the trade press won’t utter our product’s name.
Turns out customers don’t give a shit if every one of their friends in the niche rave about our product.
The shills are useful to the grifters for a while, but no amount of good press can fool a market for long when that market actually uses the products and cares about what the products do.
The best day of the year for any business is break even day. It’s the day you have all your expenses covered for the year and you know you will survive another year.
Plus, every dollar of revenue you earn for the rest of the year is pure gravy. And the gravy sure is good.

Anyone incapable of compartmentalizing personal differences from professional capabilities is a liability in a professional setting. Put yourself in a position to decide what kind of bullshit you have to tolerate in your career.
For 18 of the 21 years I’ve known my partners and employees we disagreed on just about every political question. That has never once interfered with how we work together. And now that I agree with them on many political questions, nothing has changed.
Don’t tolerate working with people who can’t separate their emotions from the work they do. Be the person who decides what kind of bullshit you have to put up with at work.

I was just talking to one of my kids yesterday about how the ‘90s are a blur to me. I don’t know much of what was going on culturally at all. I watched The Last Dance a couple months ago and I felt like someone from another country watching it because I was so busy during my 20s.
I worked 40-50 hours a week and then spent another 40 hours a week learning whatever skills I needed to help me accomplish my next professional goals. Not to even mention raising 2, then 3, and then 4 kids.
I look around and see so many people just completely wasting their 20s and I see so many people my age in their 50s who wasted their 20s and they are all moaning about how they’ll never be able to retire. People in their 50s who have no kids and have no wealth accumulated are doubly fucked. Don’t be like those people.
He’s right and there are far too many people who don’t understand this. If your income isn’t in the top quartile or decile now, a few million sats aren’t going to deliver you to some future aristocracy.
There are lots of bitcoiners who already have fuck you money and are retired and they aren’t going to tell you this either. 
This sucks and is one of the consequences of higher for longer and the entire Ponzinomics we are living through. There will be many more like them.
