I listened just the other day, and quite enjoyed the discussion.

To be fair it's not just progressive people, it's everyone in a sense. The root cause is that people like to moralize what others choose to do with their money. Sometimes this is justified of course when how one chooses to use their money actively harms or exploits others - which is likely what is seen with Bitcoin for the aforementioned group of people. Keep fighting the good fight to educate these people on Bitcoin's benefits!

I find the logic (I know it's not the right word in this case) of traders. There were two scenarios:

1) SEC Approves: sell the news!

2) SEC Rejects/Delays: sell!

Like, completely binary inputs with the same outputs.

Agreed. "Likes" are nice, but there's something so much more rewarding by getting a zap, even though it's often only fractions of a penny in today's dollars. The fact the zapper connecting their appreciation in real world, skin-in-the-game terms makes it so much better.

I mean, you couldn't even ask for a better allegory here - many Bitcoiners have been screaming for years about the depths of government incompetence and/or corruption and this is a perfect example.

SEC:

Is this not just a consequence of BTC dipping with respect to USD - ETH/USD likely flat, right?

I think it's just one of those irrational self fulfilling prophecy things - there's no rational reason for one to do this, I think everyone who sells does so in expectation that everyone else will, hence the self fulfilling prophecy. I expect a small short dip on approval followed by a steady trend up as investors start to pile in on the ETF.

My 14 yo son's default notification sound on his phone is the short bridge from Weezer's Buddy Holly (the part after the "that's for all time" x2) so I think I'm permanently going to have that song stuck in my head.

Not complaining, even after almost 30 years still a wicked tune.

This needed a meme...

If you aren't already doing so, please follow nostr:npub12ym4gud920vsfrudtuey6xc99aamgxtemfg056sgxgd855u93vpq7m2gc5, an amazing 🇨🇦 restaurant chain and an amazing business. They are kind of like Canada's MicroStrategy -- holding #Bitcoin in their treasury and helping raise the profile of this strategy for businesses across Canada.

If you want to win as a Canadian business over the coming decade, be like nostr:npub12ym4gud920vsfrudtuey6xc99aamgxtemfg056sgxgd855u93vpq7m2gc5 and make sure you add and hold #Bitcoin in your business’s reserves.

They're in Calgary, correct? I'll be there for a conference in February, will have to check them out.

Yeah and what also annoys me is when I go to find out what he said, none of the news outlets will actually quote him with the full context so I can decide for myself. Instead they'll just tiptoe around it and try to tell me what I should think.

I think my favorite is one by JP Morgan:

"A man has two reasons for doing a thing: a good reason and the real reason."
