Related, just heard the news about Navalny. Absolutely tragic.

Any remotely private information - I even remove the dealership stickers from my car because statistically people tend to buy from the dealer closest to their home. The other reason is that I refuse to advertise a private business on my property. If they want that they can pay me.

Oh my, their merch is awesome.

I'll tell you though, I took a General Relativity class in my final year. I did okay, but it was then that I realized I was definitely not a theoretician - I did my MSc and PhD as an experimentalist - much more fun getting your hands dirty.

My undergrad is in physics - now that's a word I've not heard in a long time. What's funny about this is I sometimes tell laypeople the underlying reason relativity is the way it is - and it's based on his gedankenexperiment whereby the speed of light must be the same in any inertial reference frame.

To an extent, I like the fact that deletion is more difficult. There are trade-offs for sure, but the big thing is, knowing that it's more difficult, I'm definitely much more mindful and thoughtful about what I say and the information that I share.

The other thing is, even if you do the thought experiment where a deletion event truly removed any record of the post in every way, it is still something that happened. In a similar way, verbally saying something rude to a friend or coworker can't be taken back, even though the sound vibrations from your mouth have long since passed.

I dunno, just some random thoughts.

I haven't seen the movie, so can't comment on their performances/work. Is there some probability there was discrimination? Sure - there's always a chance. Having said that what I find frustrating is that so many are arguing it's wrong and their reasoning can be summarized as "bEcAuSe pAtRiArChY". First of all it's not evidence of anything, second of all it's just plain intellectually lazy.

This is part of a broader trend where any and all disparity in anything can be 100% attributable to discrimination, which is completely absurd.

The other key point of course is the fees are never the right value - they're either too low to meet the security budget, or too high to use the network. It's almost like they're Schrodinger's Fees - simultaneously too high and too low.

Feeling grateful that I don't know who that is.

If the episode aired now, adjusted for inflation.

For me the issue isn't even directly that it's too complicated - I have engineering and science degrees and an quite comfortable coding. I use both custodial and non-custodial wallets for different circumstance and I understand the trade-offs of both. I use a custodial lightning wallet primarily for zapping on Nostr and other small payments, and it almost never has more than $20 in it. Would it suck having that rugged? Sure, but its a minor nuisance. Do I wish it was non-custodial? Sure. The problem is, for me to invest the time and effort in setting up the Lightning Node for that purpose alone is disproportionate to the amount of loss I would incur. Having said that, I'm excited to see how fedimints bridge this gap.
