Good rain and a good reminder
#grownostr
I'm with you. My 3 year old helps my wife chop potatoes and other vegetables. He's very careful, and he loves to help. The 5 year old once made hot chocolate on the stove by himself. They both frequently commandeer my shears and loppers.
The pastor of a church I attended back in PA once gave a sermon illustration of teaching a toddler "no, hot" when they're near a stove, but it being ridiculous if that toddler, grown and living in a shared apartment, is still fearful of the stove and keeps their roommate from using it with a warning of "no, hot." As we grow in knowledge and understanding, we can understand concepts better, "no, hot" goes from being "because dad said so" to "I need to use this heat source responsibly so I don't hurt myself or start a fire in my apartment." Seems applicable, my mind went there anyway.
Is this the pool location?

I noticed that too. Imagine having so little empathy that that slogan makes you feel good.
They're closely related to pecans, so they could be interchangeable in any recipe calling for pecans.
Sounds like a great day!
I'll still find a way to mess it up 😂
My boys and I pulled the big weeds from the raspberry patch, scattered and scratched in oat, pea and diakon seeds, and tucked the weed tops over the bed to keep the marauding chickens from eating the cover crops. As I was finishing (and the boys were shooing chickens) it began to rain. And now it's dropping the most beautiful steady rain.
It's probably rained more this afternoon than it has in the last 4-6 weeks

I want to try that next summer. I'll have to rewatch your videos over the winter
Really, anything to cover the soil is beneficial. I suspect that cardboard is less permeable than loose mulch and probably gives a slight improvement for water retention. That can probably cut both ways, since it will also slow/prevent infrequent rain from soaking in.
I like compost on the ground surface (+biochar for bonus points), covered with cardboard and then a few inches of mulch (woodchips are my favorite, but straw or hay also work). Basically old-fashioned lasagna gardening.
