My family did something like this. My oldest wanted pumpkin pie for his 5th birthday. He decided that 7 months in advance. He picked out pumpkin seeds on a trip to the grocery store. He insisted we start the seeds about a month earlier than recommended, same with setting out. But those plants gave us some nice big pumpkins and he got his pumpkin pie.
Now my wife is trying pretty much every pumpkin recipe she can find to burn through our supply 😅

I've been sleeping on pears. Holy Toledo. 
This is 14 cups of cooked keiffer pears. It's a fairly grainy pear, but real nice flavor. Cooked, it tastes like there's vanilla in there in with a great pear flavor.
We're making pear butter with inspiration from a recipe I found online. Ours will be the 14 cups of cooked pear puree, 1 1/2 cup of sucanat, 2 tsp dried orange peel, and 1/2 cup of orange juice.
