Welcome Jason - #[0]
I saw your post on telegram that we had another TSPC workshop alum joining NOSTR. Welcome to the party!!!!
Look for Jack's #grownostr initiative for a great way to get started and meet new folks with similar interests...
Today's news - SEC charges against Coinbase (www.sec.gov/news/press-release/2023-102). Don't ignore this. It is serious. Binance is at risk. Coinbase is at risk. Other exchanges are at risk. You should review your position and decide if you need to take action.
If you need help - just ask. Do it now, before it is too late.

I already emailed my subscribers about the SEC charges against Binance (www.sec.gov/news/press-release/2023-101), but wanted to post here too so folks are aware.
Summary: It is serious. Binance is at risk. All assets there are at risk. You should review your position and decide if you need to take action. If you need help - just ask. Do it now, before it is too late.

I've looked at Umbrel as well as Start9 and chose Start9 - so I definitely think it's better for me. Your requirements / needs may be different, so you are smart to do more research.
Start9 supports local access via https and like Umbrel has remote access via TOR. It is possible to do custom networking to get your Start9 visible remotely w/out TOR, but it is not trivial, and it isn't supported by the Start9 team. The next major release is planned to have additional networking abilities to make it easier to access remotely w/out TOR.
My experience is that Start9 is easier for folks to install and manage, but if you are willing to do more work, Umbrel currently has more services. Start9 has automated backups and service monitoring, and a GUI that I like. It does have some limitations - it only supports one hard drive (it can be very large, but only one is supported). It wasn't part of my decision process, but I did find that after buying Start9 - the customer support was amazing. I haven't worked w/Umbrel support so I can't comment there.
Start9 also offers packages with prebuilt hardware and their StartOS already preloaded -as close to plug and play as you can get. Their pricing was better than I could buy the underlying hardware for, so I was happy to buy through them. I think Umbrel also offers a hardware preloaded version, so don't get hung up on hardware specs. Both allow you to just download the software and install on your own hardware.
Start9 did compare themselves vs. Umbrel - that's worth reading too: #[2]

Add my vote for #grownostr. It's not a panacea, but it is aimed specifically to broaden the conversation to more than just bitcoin, so it's a good place to start
my default zap amount is 21, but V4V - I often zap more :)
There are many nostr clients - each with their own 'angle'. Here are just a couple you can try

If you are an Atlas Shrugged Fan, check out the Atlas Society's latest "Draw My Life - Ragnar Danneskjold". Actually, even if you aren't a fan of the book, it's only a 5 minute video and worth a watch.

I’ve been using Alby extension for this from the start. It is very slick. Makes it easy to try out new clients without posting my private key everywhere!!!

Trying a reply from snort.social to see if I see any difference in what the reply looks like...
I mostly use iris.to (self hosted), but also Damus (iOS) and snort.social. This reply is via iris.to.
This may be the client trying to tag the folks in the thread. I see "replying to:" at the top of my last post. I'm guessing that's due to the p tags you are asking about.
I'm only two weeks into nostr, so if there's something I'm doing wrong, please let me know...
Very unfortunate.
I ski, I snowboard, and I've tried telemark. I teach skiing and mostly ski - only because I have a limited number of days on snow. I enjoy all three.
However you slide down the mountain, it's all good...

Anyone here been there yet? Any thoughts / feedback?

You make good points - focus on genuine engagement, not DMs and follows for topics you aren't really interested in. I also like the continue to contribute to your new tag.
I'll circle back and try to post more on topics I've already raised - after all they are the things I care about!
When initially starting with Alby extension I created some 'test' accounts. I couldn't find a way to replace my test account with my real account in the extension. I wound up totally uninstalling the extension, then re-installing it so I could log in with the correct account...
If nothing else works, you may want to try uninstalling the extension, then reinstalling it and seeing if it lets you login the way you want then...
I was very pleased with my choice to purchase ledger hardware wallets in 2021.
I was not pleased with the ledger live direction, and now ledger recover takes them even further in the wrong direction (for me at least). Looks like they admit that if you use their recover option you are vulnerable to government ordering Ledger to reveal your information https://twitter.com/i/status/1660677064700178436
I've been looking at #coldcard - even got a gift card to use there, but now that I'm ready to buy the the discount code I'd gotten earlier expired.
Anyone have a current promo code I can use to buy 2 coldcard MK4s with my gift card?

Thanks for the reply. I think you are right that this initiative could be misused, and maybe incentives are not aligned to the best. If someone does this solely to increase followers and hashtags inaccurately it isn't going to help.
The context of this initiative (what I got from listening to the podcast) was asking people to post on non-bitcoin topics and hashtag those posts with #grownostr and whatever hashtag is appropriate for the post. The idea being that it would be a way to find new followers and have folks follow you for non-bitcoin topics where you do share an interest in the tag and appreciate the content. I've seen a number of grownostr posts / tags that I do not have interest in and don't follow.
Not trying to argue with you - genuinely interested in improving things and looking for alternate ways to make nostr better... I appreciate your engagement here.
I'm happy if you have other suggestions besides hashtags for discovery. Please tell me more about your thoughts here.
I confess to being new to nostr - hashtags seemed somewhat helpful to me so far, but I know things change quickly here...
Here's my #1 concern on magicwebstore. Security. I was unpleasantly surprised to see my private key displayed in cleartext in the URL when I first logged in to my store using the magic string.
