To break old habits (social media usage); you have to build new habits (repetitive use), usually by making the new thing 1) more addictive (features, content, UX) 2) easy to use (UX), 3) better at doing the job it was hired for.

Positioning outside of these things on niche issues will likely only draw in niche audiences.

As evidence by bitcoiners who tried nostr and are still on X, we haven’t broken their old habits.

Probably going to have to wait for organic growth over time in waves. As more apps adopt nostr, they will bring their own audiences with them. Occasionally you’ll have influencers move to nostr and bring their audiences. Some will be displaced and displeased with X. More media coverage. More awareness over time.

Besides that, it will depend on what apps are built. Clients like zap.stream for example could bring a lot of non-bitcoin users here. The same goes for stemstr and highlighter.

I think the biggest growth opportunity will be in clients who implement traditional payment methods instead of being zaps-only. IF you can get stripe to approve you, you could in theory just add stripe payments and subscription to services and sell the uncensorable angle or the network effects angle.

There are many ways to grow. Finally, you will have very interesting features that were never before possible such as cross-app discovery, which may turn heads and bring even more users here.

Could be an opportunity for nostr to help make social media less shitty.

1/3 of US gets their news from Facebook. 13% from Twitter. That’s a lot of people constantly bombarded with negative media.

Endless scrolling TikTok’s and instagrams, seeing everyone’s life highlights can make anyone feel less happy.
